ROCK HILL, S.C., US: Digital denture production has evolved considerably over the past decade, but many laboratories continue to balance the benefits of digital design with the practical limitations of manufacturing. Separate printing processes, manual assembly, post-polymerisation and time-intensive finishing can reduce the efficiency gains promised by a fully digital workflow. The NextDent Jetted Denture Solution was developed by 3D Systems to address some of these challenges through an integrated approach to digital denture production.
At the centre of the solution is the NextDent 300 MultiJet 3D printer, which prints the denture teeth and base simultaneously to produce a monolithic denture, eliminating the need to assemble and bond separately printed components. Two separate materials, each formulated for the distinct functions of denture bases and teeth, allow dental laboratories to create monolithic dentures with high durability and lifelike aesthetics. Supported by MultiJet Printing technology, the solution produces high-quality dentures in fewer manual steps, streamlining production and reducing costs.
Joshua Williams, general manager of GPS Digital RPD dental laboratory.
“After trying the new NextDent 300, I cannot see a future for any dental lab without one of these in each and every one. From my perspective, this printer checks all the boxes twice,” said Joshua Williams, general manager of the GPS Digital RPD dental laboratory.
He explained that the system saves considerable time because dentures do not have to be assembled from multiple parts and that no caustic solutions are required for post-processing. He also highlighted the range of colour options available for the NextDent Jet Teeth and NextDent Jet Base materials, which he said give the dentures a lifelike appearance. According to Williams, a crucial benefit is that the finished dentures bounce rather than shatter when dropped. He also highlighted the simplified post-processing workflow, noting that the supports melt away and that a simple dust-free wash removes residue before pumicing and polishing.
“We produced a batch of 15 dentures and found the workflow to be very streamlined—300% faster than producing dentures using an analogue workflow and 120% faster than using a resin printer to print the base and teeth separately,” Williams said.
Commenting on his laboratory’s experience with the NextDent Jetted Denture Solution, Joshua Jakson, president of Evolve Dentistry, said: “As the use of digital dentistry workflows continues to accelerate, digitally fabricating dentures using 3D-printing technology is becoming the standard mode of manufacturing. For Evolve Dentistry, it is important for us to remain consistent and have a process that we can truly scale.”
The NextDent 300 MultiJet 3D printer produces denture teeth and bases together as monolithic dentures.
He continued: “Because of the NextDent 300’s post-processing workflow, we are able to hit the mark every single time. The consistency of the printer is outstanding. We have had no failures so far, and the materials are on another level compared with competing materials on the market. Our clients clearly notice the difference. We are looking forward to a long collaboration with 3D Systems and are excited to see where the future will take us.”
The NextDent Jetted Denture Solution provides a faster, more cost-effective and scalable alternative to traditional denture fabrication, supporting improved business outcomes for laboratories and better results for patients. Beyond helping dental laboratories scale production, the NextDent 300 offers greater control over the workflow, production quality and turnaround time. Reducing repetitive, labour-intensive tasks through hands-free support removal and fewer manual steps allows technicians to devote more time to the skilled decisions that define the fit, finish and aesthetics of the prosthesis.
This can help teams manage growing demand with less operational strain and maintain the technical quality and consistency that their customers expect. Rather than replacing technical expertise, the workflow supports it, creating a more predictable production environment that gives laboratories greater confidence in managing turnaround time, maintaining quality and scaling production.
