CHICAGO, Ill., USA: Dental professionals interested in providing their services to underserved populations can check out the course on effective international volunteerism, called “I Do, I Teach, I Volunteer,” at the upcoming American Dental Association (ADA) Annual Session in New Orleans. The ADA meeting will be held at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center, Oct. 31 to Nov. 3.
This free, 2.5-hour course (course 6336) is scheduled for Friday, Nov. 1, from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Experienced global volunteers Dr. Marshall Gallant and Dr. Jack Levine are scheduled to discuss how international volunteerism can support lasting, sustainable improvements to the oral health of communities in need worldwide.
The presenters will share strategies to improve oral public health in developing nations through education and training, personal perspectives on international oral health programs and more. Dr. Sherwin Shinn, the 2013 ADA Humanitarian Award recipient, will be a guest speaker. The course is presented in cooperation with the ADA Division of Global Affairs.
Registration is open for the ADA meeting. The session brings together leaders in dental practice, research, academia and industry to present more than 300 continuing education courses over four days.
More information on international volunteer opportunities is available at the ADA’s international volunteer website, located at http://internationalvolunteer.ada.org.
