JACKSONVILLE, Fla., USA: Today is a big day here at the American Dental Hygienists’ Association’s 94th Annual Conference. After a full day of seminars and hands-on workshops on Thursday, along with the second In-Motion: 5K Run, Walk, Fun to raise funds in support of the mission of the Institute for Oral Health, the exhibit hall opens its doors, allowing attendees to check out the aisles of new products and technology designed specifically to help those in the hygiene profession.

From 9:30 to 11:30 a.m., you can hear a presentation on new products from companies such as Crosstex, Dentsply Sirona and Waterpik. The session costs $35 and is worth two C.E. credits. The exhibit hall is open today until 4 p.m.

Also on tap for today are sessions exploring the new gingivitis code, working as a mid-level oral hygiene provider, periodontal instrumentation for the advanced practitioner and treating chronic gingival inflammation, among other topics.

Altogether, the 94th Annual Session features 30 hands-on workshops and 26 unique seminars led by the top educators and practitioners in the field.

Starting Saturday, the final days of the meeting will shift to a membership-activities focus, including district discussions, house of delegates, reference committee meetings, a candidates forum, leadership forum and balloting.

But until 5 p.m. Saturday, the focus will remain on the exhibit hall and education sessions. The exhibit hall is open from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday and features a complimentary lunch sponsored by the Wrigley Oral Healthcare Program.

When exploring the booths and making purchases from any of the more than 130 companies in the exhibit hall, be sure to save your receipts. After the meeting, you can submit them to ADHA to see if you are eligible for a discount to ADHA's 95th Annual Conference in Columbus, Ohio.

Also open again Saturday on the exhibit floor is the “HeadShot Lounge,” sponsored by Dentsply Sirona, which runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and provides you with an easy way to secure a professional quality portrait photo to use on social media or for other networking or career/business-development needs.

According to meeting organizers, the ADHA conference provides an array of opportunities to learn, engage and advance professional and personal skills via educational and networking opportunities for clinical practitioners, public health professionals, students, emerging professionals, educators and researchers.

Among the sessions and workshops on the agenda for Saturday are: “Periodontal instrumentation for the advanced practitioner,” “The magic of air: A subgingival air polishing workshop,” “Demystifying peri-implant maintenance: An evidence-based approach,” “Clinical, classroom, corporate, oh my: Finally clarify your career sweet spot,” “Stop the peri-go-round: Problem solving strategies to help patients own their infection and say yes to treatment” and “Help me, help you: Becoming stronger together.”

Many of the C.E. seminars and workshops sell out during preregistration. But some opportunity might exist to still find openings. Just check with onsite registration, which is open Saturday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.

“Help me, help you: Becoming stronger together,” which is not an extra-fee C.E. course, is scheduled as one of the final sessions of the conference (2–5 p.m. Saturday), presenting an appropriate segue into the final two days of membership-focused activities. For the past two years, course facilitator Cynthia D’Amour has earned the highest attendee ratings at the ADHA’s “Unleashing Your Potential” workshop.

D’Amour has 20 years of experience working with association leaders and constituents to improve membership engagement. In her session, she takes on this year’s ADHA membership mega issue: how ADHA can better support you — in your practice setting and in your career development.

D’Amour will guide attendees through a variety of interactive exercises that will enable you to improve networking skills and make meaningful connections that will help foster a welcoming environment wherever you go.

Then, that’s it for the annual conference’s exhibits, courses and workshops until the annual conference returns next year for its 95th anniversary, June 20-25, at the Columbus Convention Center in Columbus, Ohio.
