The latest trends in digital dentistry are setting new standards in oral care, and this year, new advancements will push the envelope even further. To empower dental professionals in practising digital dentistry, 3Shape is hosting 3Shape Discover 2024, a virtual event taking place on 6 June that will introduce new essentials and tools that will transform the way you work.

Digital technologies have become so ubiquitous in work, school and home environments that patients now expect to see and experience them while in the dental chair. Dr Rune Fisker, senior vice president for product strategy at 3Shape, said in January that treatment simulations are increasingly being used to engage patients—particularly in the first appointment—and that simulated or interactive treatment proposals will become the expected standard of care.

As well as boosting treatment acceptance, the latest trends in digital dental technologies are helping clinicians to discover new levels of professional collaboration and flexibility. According to Dr Fisker, the digital dental revolution in 2024 is set to be led by intra-oral scanners, generative artificial intelligence (AI) and a steady stream of innovation in dental resins that is driving the adoption and use of 3D-printing technologies.

“I believe technological developments to scanners will soon transform the way we work and practise dentistry.”

Generative AI has quickly become a cornerstone in dentistry, and its transformative power has been demonstrated by the success of 3Shape Automate. The hands-free AI-powered technology has registered more than two million crown design downloads, and the service boasts a 92% design success rate. When it comes to intra-oral scanning technology, the numbers also speak for themselves: intra-oral scanner penetration currently sits at above 50% in the US, Nordic and Australian dental markets, and one-third of all dental laboratory cases in the US now begin with an intra-oral scan. According to Dr Fisker, widespread adoption of the technology is just the beginning. He said: “Most intra-oral scanner users consider their scanner as an efficient digital impressions solution, but I believe technological developments to scanners will soon transform the way we work and practise dentistry.”

Discover new scanning essentials

3Shape is inviting clinicians from around the world to “discover the digital you”. The company develops products that bridge the latest trends in digital dentistry, and attendees will be among the first clinicians to see 3Shape’s very latest advancements, including an exciting product reveal that combines core scanning functionality with affordability and other new tools that will help them to unlock the full potential of digital dentistry.

Attendees will have the opportunity to learn from key opinion leaders and industry experts, such as Dr Fisker, Dr Agatha Bis and Dr Nazariy Mykhaylyuk. They will share details about their own personal journeys to success and provide insights and inspiration on how to make the most of digital tools and technologies every day. Tips and tricks relating to the TRIOS intra-oral scanner will help clinicians get more out of their digital scanning. Furthermore, introducing future trends in digital dentistry will provide inspiration to clinicians and help them to thrive in an ever-evolving professional landscape.
