According to the World Health Organization, dental caries is the most common health condition worldwide. Even though the importance of management of noncavitated lesions has been recognized since the early 1900s, caries frequently remains undiagnosed until it reaches the cavitation phase. Furthermore, studies have underscored the inadequacy of a purely restorative strategy in managing caries. In the early stage, the majority of carious lesions are often left untreated, exposing patients to the risk of caries progression and the associated mental and physical discomfort.
One of the reasons clinicians may rely on a wait-and-watch approach is the lack of targeted treatment options for early caries management. Such measures would allow dentists to treat these lesions precisely and predictably in order to maintain the integrity of the tooth by guiding hydroxyapatite formulation within the lesion.
Curodont Repair Fluoride Plus by vVARDIS is a unique biomimetic system for the treatment of early caries through guided enamel remineralization. Tailored specifically for incipient caries, it works on all tooth surfaces through a targeted application procedure. Through its patented low-viscosity formulation, Curodont Repair Fluoride Plus diffuses into the early carious lesion and attracts calcium and phosphate ions from the patient’s saliva, enabling remineralization within a matter of minutes. A retrospective cohort study and a randomized controlled single-blind study have shown that Curodont Repair Fluoride Plus is a safe and effective treatment for initial caries and a suitable clinical protocol for noninvasive treatment, allowing in-depth remineralization of the lesion with the formation of new hydroxyapatite crystals over time.
Together, Curodont Repair Fluoride Plus and Curodont Protect represent a treatment and maintenance solution that has the potential to address the growing demand for noninvasive caries therapy. (Image: vVARDIS)
Curodont Repair Fluoride Plus has become widely adopted in dental clinics across the U.S. for the noninvasive treatment of early caries. Following up on this success, vVARDIS has now introduced Curodont Protect, an anti-cavity and anti-sensitivity dental gel that serves as an ideal complement to in-office treatment with Curodont Repair Fluoride Plus.
The thin gel formulation of Curodont Protect supports the remineralizing action of Curodont Repair Fluoride Plus at the surface level. Their combination maximizes the effectiveness of the in-office treatment but also fosters patient compliance and engages patients in their own care. After in-office treatment, it is recommended that Curodont Protect be applied once per day for seven days or until the tube is empty.
