Dental News - Meirelles joins ADA as director of professional product review and standards

CHICAGO, Ill., USA: Dr. Luiz Meirelles has accepted the role of director of professional product review and standards for the American Dental Association (ADA). Meirelles will provide overall leadership and strategic direction of the ADA’s Professional Product Review (PPR) program and Dental Material Standards development.

Meirelles will work through the Council on Scientific Affairs to provide ADA input in the development of dental materials standards of dentistry and lead the development protocols used for product testing in the PPR program. He will also actively participate in the production of peer-reviewed journal articles and presentations to professional and industry audiences.

"I am honored to join the ADA,” Meirelles said. “I’m looking forward to working closely with the other ADA divisions to help serve members and improve the oral health of the public.”

Prior to accepting this position with the ADA, Meirelles served as assistant professor of dentistry at the University of Rochester Medical Center, Eastman Institute. Meirelles earned his DDS degree from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro in Brazil, his MS in prosthodontics from the State University of Campinas and his PhD in biomaterials from the University of Gothenburg in Sweden. He also has diplomas in advanced specialty and education in prosthodontics and oral surgery advanced training.
