ANAHEIM, Calif., USA: CDA Presents the Art and Science of Dentistry was held April 30 to May 2, offering dental professionals the opportunity to step right up and see what new and innovative products and services they could take back to their practices. Highlights at the spring event were many.

The 135,000-square-foot exhibit hall floor was brimming with 575 exhibiting companies, each of them showcasing a different product.

Henry Schein Inc. introduced Dentrix G6, the latest version of its award-winning dental practice management software. According to Schein, Dentrix G6 offers customers new features that enhance the user experience and enable practitioners to adopt paperless practices.

Carestream Dental showcased two new products designed to expand the diagnostic capabilities of general practitioners and streamline daily workflow. The CS Adapt module for the RVG 6200 sensor has 40 filters in 10 pre-defined filter families, so practitioners can select the perfect filter to suit their visual preference or diagnostic need. In addition to the pre-sets, users can customize images even more by modifying brightness and contrast.

Also available from Carestream is the CS 8100SC scanning cephalometric imaging system, built on the award-winning technology of the CS 8100 panoramic system. The new unit is designed to expand your ability to diagnose and treat patients without the need to refer to imaging centers or specialists.

The Planmeca booth had Dr. Warren Jesek on hand to offer his insights on comprehensive treatment planning using the ProMax 3D ultra-low-dose protocol, which achieves an average of 77 percent reduction in radiation dose
 without compromising image quality.

LED Dental was showcasing a new, cloud-based imaging solution, LED Imaging Cloud, designed to combine the performance of LED Imaging software with the convenience and security of cloud technology. The web-based system is accessible 24 hours per day, seven days per week from any location, allowing practitioners real-time, remote access to clinical data for their entire patient database

Essential Dental Systems (EDS) offered its new endodontic system, Tango-Endo, which enables practitioners to treat a root canal case with only takes two instruments. The files are designed to be tough and reusable and feature a unique, patented flat along the entire length that allows for faster engagement with less resistance, increased flexibility without sacrificing strength and virtually eliminated instrument separation, according to the company. The Tango-Endo system includes its own reciprocating handpiece. A kit includes gutta-percha points.

DrQuickLook SD Plus is an all-in-one intraoral camera that allows dentists to quickly display and review with patients on an easy-to-use handheld touch screen. “It’s a unique, patient-held, completely universal intraoral camera,” said Erin Primerano of DrQuickLook. “Users can also transfer saved images to a computer or patient file. It works right out of the box and is made here in the USA.”

EyeZoom, the first and only loupe to offer multiple magnification powers, was on display. Co-engineered by Orascoptic and Konica Minolta, this revolutionary optical design boasts a three-step variable magnification technology and edge-to-edge high definition resolution. You now have the power to customize your magnification for specific techniques or zoom in and out to change your perspective during a procedure. It's like having three loupes in one.

Septodont’s new BioRoot RCS is a bioactive and biocompatible root canal sealer with active biosilicate technology. This pure mineral formulation does not stain teeth and eliminates post-op sensitivity, according to Septodont. The strong seal and tight interface provides adhesive to dentin and gutta-percha points, giving a void-free seal, the company says.

CDA Presents is also an excellent place to fulfill C.E. credits for the year, and those opportunities included a myriad of lectures, workshops and forums. Here is a sampling of the many educational sessions:

  • “The Exceptional Dental Team: Gatekeepers for Systemic Inflammation and Total Wellness,” with Dr. DeWitt C. Wilkerson.
  • “Graftless Solutions in Implant Dentistry” with Dr. Saj Jivraj and Dr. Hooman Zarrinkelk.
  • “Eat This, Not That: Tooth Wear, Lifestyle and Nutrition,” with Dr. Uche Odiatu.
  • “The Dental Playing Field: Interactive, Entertaining, Audience Participation, High-Energy Experience!” with Gary Zelesky.
