Carestream Dental introduced its new CS 1600 multi-use intraoral camera. According to the company, it’s got the widest focus range on the market (1mm to infinity), is easy to use and features the same unique liquid-lens autofocus technology as Carestream Dental’s 1500 intraoral camera as well as a sophisticated 18-LED illumination system and an optional polarizer filter to reduce glare.

Carestream also unveiled a new Scheduler for its CS SoftDent practice management software. Designed to give practice administrators a better handle on the interruptive environment of the front desk, the new Scheduler quickly provides easy access to an array of information. According to the company, it improves office efficiency, productivity and communication, streamlining tasks such as booking new appointments, looking up patient records and updating appointment cards.

Ultradent Products launched Edelweiss, a uniquely engineered composite veneer system, at CDA Presents. It’s billed as a low-cost, esthetic alternative to custom lab veneers. According to the company, each composite veneer in the Edelweiss system is laser sintered, combining a high-gloss, uniform surface with a thermally tempered base. Ultradent intends Edelweiss as a solution for those seeking a lower-cost alternative to custom lab veneers, unlocking the opportunity for dentists to offer esthetic smiles to more patients.

For those who perform root canal therapy, Roydent Dental Products offered its popular C-Files in new sizes — 12.5, 15 and assorted packs 06-10, all in 21 mm and 25 mm lengths. The new 12.5 is an exclusive size to Roydent and allows doctors to make a half step when instrumentation between sizes10 and 15.

Nancy Connor, Roydent’s sales and marketing manager, said the C-Files provide an ideal and extremely effective way to instrument calcified canals. They are also ideal for locating canals and instrumenting narrow canals. Their non-cutting tip allows doctors to break through calcification safely and efficiently.

DUX Dental was offering BRONZE, an alternative to the common dental X-ray apron. The BRONZE apron is a reversible charcoal, lead-free X-ray apron that is designed to add a sophisticated look to the dental operatory. It’s also lightweight.

For those who would like to attract new patients, there is DentalGenie, which uses mobile phone technology to let new patients connect with you. Patients can send queries, seek initial diagnosis, and get access to specials with a simple click from their smart phones. It’s designed to help you get more patients. You can send coupons and promotions to potential patients who are nearby, and you can learn about their issues before appointments are scheduled.

Shofu introduced BeautiSealant, a tooth-colored, fluoride recharging, pit and fissure sealant with a self-etching primer that speeds treatment time by eliminating the need for phosphoric acid etching. According to the company, the product helps preserve healthy enamel that is easily demineralized with harsh acid-etchants, while still maintaining superior bond strength. Seeping deeply into pits and fissures, the HEMA-free primer bonds equally to enamel or dentin, preparing the tooth surface for a secure and long-lasting bond.

The folks at American Eagle Instruments were telling meeting attendees about XP curettes, which are treated with a patented process that hardens the stainless steel and then encapsulates the steel with a diamond-like layer. According to the company, this makes an edge that will last months without sharpening. The thin design of the XP curettes allows for easy access into periodontal pockets and interproximal areas for enhanced patient comfort. A rounded opposing edge reduces tissue trauma.

At Keystone Industries, Olympic athletes Brittany Hayes and Rick Merlo, who both won silver medals in water polo at the 2008 games in Beijing, China, were on hand to tell meeting attendees about the Pro-form Patriot Mouthguard. Each mouthguard is custom fit for the wearer. According to Keystone, the important physical characteristics of mouthguard materials are tensile strength, softness and uniform density. The Pro-form laminate maintains these characteristics best because of its laminating process, which combines heat and pressure. Both Hayes and Merlo, who are signing autographs at the Keystone booth, wore the mouthguard during competition in the Olympics.

For kids, there’s the DINO kids dental chair, designed by Ossi Dental. The chair, which helps make going to the dentist fun instead of frightening, comes complete with a digital LED monitor with audio and video playback, detached tool tray, high-speed handpiece tubing, an operation light, an instrument tray and even a fox head that rotates from side to side — all seamlessly incorporated into colorful, animated characters.

Those who are enthralled by iPhones and iPads could stop by Ultimate Business Apps. The geeks there can design a custom app for your practice. Your app can include your bio, an office tour, before-and-after pictures, testimonials and much more. You can even have your app configured to allow your patients to fill out forms on an iPhone or iPad, rather than with pen and paper.

For those who want to grow their practices, Viva Concepts offered a novel idea: you can hand out gift cards to your existing patients, which they can pass along to friends and family members. With a selection of more than 20 card templates and the option of custom designs, you can pick your design and create your specialized offer. A magnetic stripe on the back of the card a swiper that is used when the card is redeemed makes patient referrals easy to track.
