Hinman introduces all-new laboratory technician programs

ATLANTA, Ga., USA: Organizers of the Thomas P. Hinman Dental Meeting — one of the nation’s leading dental meetings and a comprehensive source of continuing education in — recently announced all-new lab-related programming. Hinman 2017 will be held March 23 to 25. The new Learning Lab Co-Op, designed specifically for dentists, lab techs and staff, is the newest pavilion in the exhibit hall and features several one-hour tabletop demonstrations for CE credit.

In addition, Hinman is hosting Lab Tech Day, “Deliver the World’s Most Beautiful Dentistry,” for a full day of courses held on Saturday, March 25.

“We are excited to offer more courses and programs for laboratory technicians and those dentists and staff who work closely with lab techs or do their own laboratory work,” said Dr. Jane Puskas, general chairman of the 2017 Hinman Dental Meeting. “We have lined up a number of experts in the field to share with us the latest developments so that the restorative team can deliver the best possible outcomes for our patients.”

Lab Tech Day

This year’s Lab Tech Day, titled “Deliver the World’s Most Beautiful Dentistry” (Sa360), will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, March 25. There’s no fee for dentists, laboratory technicians, staff and students. Courses and speakers include:

  • “Wisdom Is Not Measured in Teeth” – Mr. Joshua Polansky, 8:30 – 10 a.m. This course covers how creating successful restorations for clients depends on having a restorative team that communicates and includes the patient, the dentist, the specialist and the technician.
  • “Re-Create Nature in Your Removable Prosthetics” – Mr. Brian Carson, 10 – 11:30 a.m. This course presents occlusal concepts via the natural functional prosthesis and demonstrates natural wax- up techniques that show the foundation that re-creates the beauty of nature.
  • “The Esthetic Handshake” – Mr. Skip Carpenter, 1 – 2:30 p.m. This course covers topics crucial in day-to-day communication, as well as protocols necessary to create the esthetic handshake at a distance.
  • “Delivering Excellence to Our Patients” – Mr. Al Hodges, 2:30 – 4 p.m. This course discusses the use of digital photography to market services to patients, to increase learning and participation for the dental team, to improve technical skills and to provide communication necessary to create beautiful and successful dentistry.

Learning Lab Co-Op Pavilion

New this year at Hinman, the Learning Lab Co-Op debuts in the exhibit hall. In the pavilion, attendees can obtain C.E. from exhibitors and laboratory technician professionals who will be presenting live table demonstrations of techniques and materials. On Thursday, several exhibitors such as Henry Schein, Carestream, Atlanta Dental, Planmeca, 3M, 3Shape and others will conduct tabletop presentations.

On Friday, master dental technicians will offer free C.E. and tabletop presentations. Presentations will include a live, 90-minute, head-to-head competition between two master technicians creating and matching a single central incisor crown under dental laboratory conditions. Also presenting will be Josh Polansky, Al Hodges, Jim and Charlie Cassidy, and Bill Marais.

On Saturday, attendees will hear from Patterson Dental and watch an E4D/Cerec side-by-side, live competition.
