NEW YORK, NY, USA: Do you know of a newly minted dentist who deserves some special recognition? If so, it is time to speak up! That’s because the nomination deadline is approaching for the American Dental Association Committee on the New Dentist Awards.

Nominations are being sought for the following:

  • Golden Apple New Dentist Leadership Award, which recognizes an ADA member dentist who graduated on or after 1 January 2000, and who has demonstrated outstanding leadership initiative in organized dentistry.
  • Golden Apple New Dentist Legislative Leadership Award, which recognizes an ADA member dentist who graduated on or after 1 January 2000, and who has demonstrated outstanding political/legislative leadership initiative.
  • The Golden Apple Outstanding Leadership in Mentoring Award, which recognizes an ADA member dentist who has demonstrated outstanding leadership in mentoring. (The nominee for this award does not need to be a new dentist.)
  • The New Dentist Committee Outstanding Program Award of Excellence, which recognizes a constituent or component new dentist committee for a single program or service that meets the needs of dental students, recent graduates, new dentists or that facilitates the involvement of dental students or new dentists in organized dentistry.

The winners will be announced during the ADA’s 24th New Dentist Conference, which is scheduled to take place 24-26 June 2010 in San Diego, CA, USA.

To nominate a new dentist for one of the annual ADA awards, contact your state or local dental society by 1 December. The dental society will then submit the nominees to the ADA Committee on the New Dentist.
