ATLANTA, Ga., USA: If there was one problem with the 101st Thomas P. Hinman Dental Meeting, it was that there were so many educational opportunities, it was hard to know where to look first. With more than 220 courses, including more than 60 hands-on workshops, there was something for everyone and on every topic imaginable — from Botox and dermal fillers to social media and pharmacology.
A highlight on the meeting’s opening day was the “1-on-1 at the 101” sessions with Dr. Lee Ann Brady, Dr. Randy Huffines, Dr. Jeffrey Okeson and Dr. Jeffrey Rouse. Attendees were able to meet with these clinicians and ask questions, discuss case studies and learn information not shared during their lectures.
Also of special interest was the return of Dr. Peter Dawson to the meeting. Dawson, along with Dr. John Cranham, the clinical director of The Dawson Academy, presented a six-hour course, “Timeless Principles in Restorative Dentistry.”
Hinman incorporated a number of new interactive programs and special courses designed to enhance dental skills, as well as practice management. They included and interactive panel discussion titled “Stay Out of Jail: How to Navigate Dentistry’s ‘Danger Zones,’” led by Dr. Charles Blair and a panel with Mr. Joseph Jordan and Dr. Roy Shelburne.
A “Social Media Bootcamp” was held to help attendees dive into the social media game with a hands-on lab. Laci Phillips led the session. A participation course, “CT/MRI Scans of the TMJ: How to Read, Interpret and Utilize Modern Imaging Techniques,” was led by Dr. John Droter. Hinman also hosted a new seminar series that introduced several new speakers and topics of interest to attendees.
