MONTRÉAL, Quebec, CANADA: The 2017 Journées Dentaires Internationales du Québec (JDIQ), held May 25-30 in Montréal, Quebec, was packed with continuing education courses, lectures and workshops throughout the meeting’s five days. Getting straight to the core of one of dentistry’s biggest ongoing discussions was a lecture by Manor Haas, DDS, Cert. Endo, MSc(D), FRCD(C), of Toronto.
“Endo vs. implants: To save or not to save,” sponsored by Dentsply Sirona Endodontics, was designed to provide general practitioners with non-biased information to help them know when it’s better to save with endo treatment or extract and replace with an implant. Various clinical scenarios that GPs face were reviewed, and guidelines for endo and implant treatment were discussed.
Other afternoon sessions included “How low should you go? Treatment of the deep caries lesion,” “Communication Solutions! Attitudes, Breakdowns and Conflict resolutions,” “Improving the patient experience: Pain management and local anesthesia review” and “Digital Dentistry in Contemporary Prosthodontics: Is it practical?”
These were just a few examples from a broad and deep variety of sessions in the classrooms throughout the meeting.
Additionally, there were unlimited opportunities for dental professionals to expand their knowledge in the exhibit hall, whether in formal sit-down sessions or quick exchanges across the counters with industry experts.
