NATIONAL HARBOR, Md., USA: At the 2017 Annual Session of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry at the Gaylord National Resort and Convention Center, there is a wide range of educational offerings. Pediatric dentists from more than 30 different countries are here. The meeting began with a preconference course, which covered growth and development from infant to toddler.
The first day’s lectures covered a wide range of topics. One of the highlights was “Speech and Language in a Developing Child.” During this multi-part course, Tim Bressmann, PhD, covered a summary of normal speech development; Paula Klaiman, MClSc, CAGS, covered assessing and treating oral structural anomalies; and Gajanan Kulkarni, BDS, M Sc, Ph D, FRCD(C), offered a tentative roadmap to speech disorders.
In PEDOx talk, a three-part session, Jeannie Beauchamp, DDS, talks about how to build your practice by being involved in your community, Cavan Brunsden, DDS, talks about how you can use corporate business principles to improve your practice, and Robert Delarosa, DDS, talks about how to use a simple exercise to achieve greater focus in life.
During “A Snapshot of the Street and Prescription Drug Abuse and the Impact on Your Dental Practice,” Harold Crossley, DDS.MS, PhD, tells attendees how to identify and manage substance-abusing patients. The discussion includes signs and symptoms of commonly abused prescription and illicit drugs.
