WASHINGTON, D.C., USA: At the 61st American Academy of Implant Dentistry’s annual meeting in Washington, D.C., main podium debates drew attendees as speakers argued it out over a variety of topics in implant dentistry. A host of educated and well-known speakers took to the podium to defend their viewpoints. The meeting was held Oct. 3-6.

“We hope you are as excited as we are to hear and participate in debates on 10 different topics in implant dentistry,” said AAID President Larry Bush, at the outset of the gathering. “This should be one of the liveliest and most provocative AAID meetings ever.”

The meeting included a debate on esthetics with speakers Dr. Brahm Miller and Dr. Sonia Leziy. Dr. Carl Misch and Dr. Paulo Malo debated treatment planning, bioengineering vs. design engineering. Dr. Maurice Salama and Dr. David Garber presented varying treatment options, comprehensive vs. conformative.

Other debates covered topics such as grafting, placements, esthetics and block grafts. Hands-on workshops and the Global Symposium were also held. The Global Symposium featured presentations by speakers from around the globe and culminated with a live surgery from Russia, in which Dr. Maxim Kopylov and Dr. Sergey Zorin tackled “Vertical and Horizontal 3-D Bone Reconstruction.”

In addition to the debates, which were the main podium program, a variety of workshops took place, centering on topics such as Botox and dermal fillers; extraction site management; classic bone augmentation; ridge expansion; and laser implant dentistry.

Live surgeries via broadcast took place, including Dr. Joel Rosenlicht performing an interpositional bone grafting surgery and Dr. Alan Herford offering the reconstruction of an atrophic ridge after rhBMP2 augmentation.

In addition to the educational opportunities available to AAID attendees, a host of exhibitors filled the aisles in the Implant World Expo with the latest and most innovative products available on the market today.
