CARLSBAD, Calif., USA/KLEINOSTHEIM, Germany: Prosthetics and implant specialist Zimmer Dental has entered into a new agreement with curasan that will give the company the exclusive rights to distribute the German-based manufacturer's portfolio of synthetic bone graft materials for dental use worldwide. The materials will be available in granular, putty and paste forms, and are expected to be launched in late 2011 and early 2012.

With its Puros line, Zimmer already offers a number of bone graft materials for dentists. The new materials, including Osbone, Ceracell and the bioactive, polycrystalline calcium-alkali-phosphate ceramic Osseolive, are intended to bring synthetic options to the company’s existing portfolio and leverage its performance in the rising market for synthetic bone crafts, a company representative said.

Approval for Osseolive is still pending in the US, but the material received market admission from European regulators earlier this year. Osbone and Ceracell have already received approval in both markets. Curasan currently distributes its products almost exclusively through partners in the dental and orthopaedic market.

Company stocks on the German stock market started positive on Tuesday morning.
