SAN FRANCISCO, Calif., USA: The Academy of General Dentistry held its annual meeting — AGD 2015 — June 18 to 21 at Moscone West Convention Center. The event offered advanced learning, hands-on experiences and dental product shopping. Meeting organizers said that attendees could surely find a “golden opportunity” for education, networking and camaraderie.

Internet travel pioneer Terry Jones of Travelocity.com, Kayak.com and WayBlazer offered an address about survival of the fittest. Jones said that surviving, whether it’s in nature or the marketplace, isn’t about being the strongest or the smartest. It’s about adapting to change.

“Live Implant Surgical Demonstration — The Magic Circle,” was presented by Todd B. Engel, DDS. This surgical treatment course included information on the initial consultation and case blueprinting, biological preparation of the patient, occlusion for the proposed plan and the surgical component.

Other courses included “Can’t We Just Pull Them?” with Dr. Gregory L. Psaltis; “The Art of Endodontics: A Hands-On Participation Workshop,” with Dr. L. Stephen Buchanan; “Dental Implants: The Surgical and Prosthetic Rationale for the General Practitioner,” with Dr. Stace D. Lind; and “CBCT: More Than a Panoramic, Less Than a Panacea,” with Dr. Richard Monahan.

Attendees could even find educational opportunities on the exhibit hall floor at the Learning Labs area. During these free, 50-minute lectures, attendees explored various topics, including “Integration of CAD/CAM with 3-D Imaging/Digital Impressions” by Dr. Darin O’Bryan. (Sirona sponsored this Learning Lab.)

At noon Thursday, the AGD 2015 Exhibit Hall was officially opened with a ribbon-cutting ceremony featuring AGD Annual Meetings Council Chair Joseph Picone. Then eager attendees headed into the hall to check out the latest products from hundreds of dental industry innovators.

Some highlights: At the GSK booth, attendees could check out products such as Sensodyne, Biotene and ProNamel.
