NEW YORK, N.Y., USA: “Infection Control in Practice Team Huddle” is a bi-monthly training guide published by the Organization for Safety, Asepsis and Prevention (OSAP) that dental practices and education programs can use to keep infection prevention and safety as a primary focus of all clinical care.

This resource is designed to provide updates on the latest protocols and risks, outlines real-world scenarios could occur in the delivery of dental care and engages the team member in providing solutions to basic infection control challenges.

“Infection Control in Practice Team Huddle is a valuable resource that practice managers can use as a tool to run group meetings or team trainings,” OSAP says. “Dentists, hygienists and dental assistants also will find it engaging as an individual educational piece that will help them keep their knowledge current.”

For 30 years the OSAP has been an advocate for the safe and infection-free delivery of oral healthcare. This year, OSAP set out to re-create and refresh its hallmark publication Infection Control in Practice. The bi-monthly publication has been transformed from an information newsletter to a pivotal training tool that practice professionals can use for their “Team Huddle” to maintain a culture of safety in dentistry.

As OSAP celebrates its 30th year of service to the oral care community, an annual digital subscription of Infection Control in Practice is available for $30. An annual print subscription is $95. All OSAP members receive the newsletter for free. Visit www.OSAP.org to subscribe or join the organization.

Each Infection Control in Practice issue includes the following features:

  • Learning objectives that the reader will fulfill by studying the discussion guide.
  • A case study simulating real world circumstances that allows practitioners to learn from others and absorb the implications of how infection control infractions impact the lives of patients and professionals.
  • Discussion guide questions that the team leader can pose to staff members – or that dentists, hygienists and dental assistants can use to quiz themselves.
  • An implementation checklist that pertains to the theme of that issue – whether it be the steps to take after an infection control breach, or how to prepare for a safe dental visit -- the checklist guides the team through each safety step.
  • Interactive exercises that engage the reader and reinforce the material by doing, not just reading. Examples include “What’s Wrong with this Picture” – a visual quiz to identify infection control lapses. Each issue also includes a comprehensive quiz on the material in the issue that can be utilized as a low-cost CE test.
  • Resource links, glossary definitions and infection control tips.
