OREM, Utah, USA, & BIBERACH AN DER RISS, Germany: Aribex, the manufacturer of the NOMAD portable intraoral X-ray system, has recently been taken over by the U.S.– German KaVo Dental group. The transaction, which is subject to regulatory approval by authorities, was already finalized last week.

The device will be added to KaVo's portfolio of imaging solutions for dentistry, which comprises brands such as i-CAT, Gendex, Instrumentarium and SOREDEX. Since 2004, the group has been part of the Danaher Corporation, a multibillion-dollar industrial conglomerate based in New York.

According to a KaVo statement, the integration of Aribex operations into the group is already underway and will have no significant effects on users and suppliers. Production of the NOMAD device, which retails at approximately $7,600 in the U.S., will still be based at Aribex's headquarters in Orem, Utah. Financial details of the acquisition were not disclosed.

The NOMAD is distributed by Henry Schein (which also sells KaVo’s DIAGNOdent Laser Caries Detector), among other third-party sellers. Aribex claims to have shipped more than 10,000 units of its portable device since it was launched on dental markets in 2005. It is currently available in Standard and PRO versions. The latter offers additional features and an enhanced user interface owing to its colored LED screen. Besides use in dental practices, it is widely used by military services and for humanitarian missions owing to its portability, the company says.

Aribex also produces handheld x-ray devices for use in veterinary medicine.
