CHICAGO, Ill,, USA: With the launch of its new website, Hu-Friedy has introduced its dental instrument-recycling program online. Environdent entitles dentists in the U.S. to one free instrument from the Chicago-based manufacturer for every 12 old or broken instruments they send in.

Hu-Friedy started its dental instrument-recycling programme Environdent over 15 years ago. Only available to purchasers of new Hu-Friedy products initially, the programme was opened to any dentist wanting to recycle instruments in 2010. Previously, participants still had to go through a number of steps before they actually became eligible for a free instrument.

With the new program, the company promises to shorten the process to only two weeks, now only requiring participants to complete a form online.

Environdent currently accepts instruments of all brands, including scalers, curettes, piezo tips, as well as all types of diagnostic, restorative and surgical instruments. Once sent in, they are delivered to scrap-metal recyclers to be used in the production of metal items, the company said.

“At Hu-Friedy, we believe that the same level of passion and innovation we put into creating our quality products should be applied to the overall experience customers have with our brand, including programmes like Environdent,” Ron Saslow, Chairman and CEO of Hu-Friedy, commented.

Environdent is one of the most comprehensive recycling programs for dental instruments in the U.S. According to Hu-Friedy, more than 2.3 million instruments have been recycled since 1997. Other programmes exist, but they are limited regarding the types or brands that dentists can recycle.

Hu-Friedy has been manufacturing instruments for dentistry since 1908.
