TAMPA, FL, USA: Those who are interested in joining the growing dental field now have an additional educational option. Remington College–Tampa Campus is now enrolling students for its new Dental Assisting Diploma Program. The program curriculum includes training that will qualify students for an entry-level position as a dental assistant.

“The dental assisting program will be a great asset to our campus,” said Dr Rosalie Lampone, president of the Remington College-Tampa Campus, said in a prepared statement announcing the new program. “This is a real opportunity for people looking to join the growing dental field.”

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the job outlook for dental assistants is excellent. Dental assistants are expected to be among the fastest-growing occupations from 2006 to 2016, with a projected 29 per cent growth rate.

The program at Remington lasts a minimum of eight months and begins with students learning the fundamentals of dental science, including oral anatomy and radiology. Instruction will also be provided on making casts of teeth, creating temporary crowns, chair side assisting, preparing for dental emergencies, maintaining records and scheduling and receiving patients.

The dental assisting program consists of eight learning units. The program culminates with an externship where students can get hands-on experience and gain valuable work skills.
