NEW YORK, N.Y., USA: In response to the American Dental Association’s urgings for assistance in addressing the opioid abuse crisis, Dr. Bernard Fialkoff, a periodontist and dental implant surgeon from New York City, held a seminar on “Controlling the Drug Epidemic Worldwide” at the Greater New York Dental Meeting, held last fall at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center.

More than 54,000 health care professionals go through the exhibit each year, and at the most recent meeting Fialkoff trained many of these dentists from North and South America and from Europe on how to be proactive on the drug crisis through their role as medical professionals. Fialkoff is and president and founding sponsor of Foundation for A Drug Free World of The Americas Chapter, and he is known for his work in drug education. He has received awards from Senator Charles E. Schumer, and Pierre Fauchard Academy invited Fialkoff to present on this topic.

Fialkoff said, “It is important to share the knowledge we have gained as adults with our children. They are the future generation and can be helped to avoid problems that we went through in our lives. As a doctor, one of our roles is to help our community, and that’s why I support the Drug Free World initiatives.”

Along with being Cuban born and valedictorian of his dental class of Stony Brook University, Fialkoff utilized his Spanish speaking skills to speak and disseminate the information to hundreds of Spanish-speaking dentists at the convention. Following Fialkoff’s lecture, an Ecuadorian dentist laid plans to start a Drug Free World chapter through his office’s sponsorship in 2017.

In an article printed at the end of 2016, the ADA stated: “In July, the Congress passed and the president signed the Comprehensive Addiction and Recovery Act into law. The ADA and 83 other organizations commended the House and Senate for passing legislation to help reduce prescription opioid abuse. The wide-ranging and devastating impact of this true public health emergency on individuals, families, and our communities demonstrates the pressing need for this critical funding.”

Fialkoff, who is also president of the Fialkoff Dental Study Club, is also a continuing education provider for hundreds of dentists throughout the Eastern Seaboard. He will answer the ADA’s request by providing additional free training to dentists on illicit drug addiction and tools on how to combat prescription drug abuse in their offices. Fiakoff invites dentists from around the globe to partake in these free training seminars.

Fialkoff also presented on “Implants and Conservative Sinus Grafting — New, Innovative Techniques for Case Acceptance” at the Greater New York Dental Meeting. The Fialkoff Dental Study Club also had a non-profit booth at the exhibit hall, providing free drug-education materials. In New York City, Fialkoff has trained more than 4,000 law enforcement officers, and he sponsored more than 1,200 free drug education and prevention events. Through his presentations and through training other medical professionals, Fialkoff’s outreach has safeguarded hundreds of thousands of youth from the ravages of drugs. Fialkoff’s mission is to safeguard our community, our families and our youth through his sponsorship of the anti-drug education program.
