NEW YORK CITY: Oral and maxillofacial surgeon Ruben Cohen, DDS launched a new, state-of-the-art practice — Park Avenue Oral & Facial Surgery — with an opening reception on Tuesday, Oct. 19. About two dozen of his colleagues, as well as some key players in the dental industry, were on hand to raise a toast and wish him well.

Cohen practices a full scope of oral and maxillofacial surgery, with special focus on the treatment of obstructive sleep apnea, craniofacial deformities, pathology, bone grafting, extractions and dental implants. His new practice in Manhattan is equipped with the latest equipment, including 3-D imaging and flat-screen, wall-mounted monitors and Apple computers in every treatment room.

In addition to his extensive clinical expertise, Cohen is also known for his involvement in humanitarian relief work. He was involved in the 9/11 rescue efforts at Ground Zero in 2001, and more recently he worked in the Israeli Defense Force Field Medical Hospital in Haiti after the 2010 earthquake.

Stanley Bergman, CEO of Henry Schein, who was present at the reception to congratulate Cohen on his new practice, offered words of praise to Cohen for his commitment to helping those less fortunate “I admire the way you combine social outreach with practicing your profession,” Bergman said. “I think it is a model.”

Also in attendance, among many others, were Dr. Anthony Vernillo, professor of oral and maxillofacial pathology, radiology and medicine at New York University College of Dentisty; Dr. Ron Burakoff, chairman of the Department of Dental Medicine at Long Island Jewish Medical Center; Steve Kess, director of corporate relations of Henry Schein, Keith Drayer, vice president of Henry Schein Financial Services; and Dr. David L Hoexter, editor-in-chief of Dental Tribune.
