NEW YORK, NY, USA: More than 1,000 dentists have already signed up for the upcoming Dental Tribune Study Club Symposia, which offers four days of education in the areas of endodontics, implantology, cosmetic and digital dentistry. Did you reserve your seat yet?

People from around the world flock to the annual Greater New York Dental Meeting — to be held this year from 29 November to 2 December — and with very good reasons beyond the fact that there is no registration fee. This year, Dental Tribune America has again partnered with the meeting’s organizers to offer four days of symposia.

Each day will feature four individual one-hour lectures on various topics led by experts in their fields. Participants not only earn CE credits, but also gain an invaluable opportunity to learn diverse aspects of dentistry and how to integrate a variety of treatment options into their practice.

One-Step Adhesion, One-Step Cementation

7th generation adhesive materials have simplified the process of dental bonding, and made esthetic procedures very predictable. These new products etch, bond and desensitize in a single step, and virtually eliminate post-operative sensitivity while decreasing the potential for marginal breakdown. Since 7th generation adhesives do not require “moist” dental surfaces for bonding, this most technique sensitive requirement has been eliminated.
Indirect procedures have been simplified by newer, easier to use, impression materials and one-step resin cements. Etch, prime, desensitize, condition, and bond the abutment(s) in one single application. Straight from the automix syringe, into the crown, and onto the moist prepared tooth. One-step post cementation and core build-up techniques and materials are also available.

Cone Beam Computed Tomography offers a whole new paradigm to dental radiography. From what has been conventional 2D images, dentists now have the ability to look at the maxillo-facial region in any direction, any thickness as well as in 3D. With the introduction of Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) the specialist and general dentist alike can now afford to own and enjoy the benefits of this fantastic diagnostic tool. We will discuss the basics of CBCT, FOV (field of view), focal spot, Flat panel types, processing time, gray scale and how these affect resolution and image quality. Recent meta analysis reported an association between periodontal disease (PD) and coronary heart disease (CHD) and show a significant higher risk of 1.14 to 2.22 of developing (CHD). The new chairside of detection of matrix metalloproteinase MMP8 allows clinicians to monitor periodontal disease status in a site-specific manner and increase the patient compliance to treatment option and relevance to general health and CHD.
The consensus Report of the sixth European Workshop on Periodontology showed that Periimplantitis occurs in 28 to 56 per cent of subjects and becomes a major problem to implant dentistry in the future. Current evidence indicates that most of destruction of the periodontium is host mediated, driven by bacterial challenge.
Zirconium nitride hard coating technology for dental implants showed a high significant positive effect on biofilm reduction and fibroblast adhesion and surface mechanical resistance.

Esthetics Using Cosmetic Periodontal Surgery

A beautiful smile-the desired image- must be healthy and maintainable. In today’s society this goal is subjective and influenced by our interpretation of esthetics. Using periodontal techniques, specifically Cosmetic periodontal surgical techniques, I will show how changing the background of the desired image will enhance it to appear brighter, cleaner, healthier, yet physiological, as well. The techniques demonstrated will be streamlined and made practical for the General Practitioner. Techniques included will be: root recession coverage; Growing Enamel techniques; Gingival ridge enhancement (for pontics, teeth and implants); gingival color changes; and others. All the techniques are designed in a teamwork fashion with the restorative dentist to enhance the desired goal.

Immediate Tooth Replacement in the Esthetic Zone

The time frame of 3-6 months of unloaded healing is not always mandatory any longer. With osteoconductive implant surfaces, newer implant materials and proper diagnoses, patients can often experience implant therapy without the inconvenience of removable temporary appliances, and bonded provisional restorations. Immediate temporization gives the patient an immediate sense of security and esthetics. The provisional restorations can also lead to early and optimal soft tissue support from the time of surgery. The importance of bone augmentation for predictable, long-lasting esthetics and case selection will also be discussed.

My First Esthetic Implant Case – why, how, & when? – A live and interactive online broadcast from Germany

Aesthetic dental implants are of increasing importance in today’s dentistry. Success from the aesthetic aspect requires bone height and width, soft tissue architecture and prosthetic restorations close to nature. Out of these three elements, it is the soft tissue frame, which can be maintained or reconstructed not only using surgery but also with the right prosthetic elements. In addition to surgical intervention is the creation of the specific emergence profile necessary in the aesthetic zone. The emergence profile is composed of two parts, the abutment and the subgingival part of the crown. The form of the abutment can be individually shaped so that it gives a natural appearance. This shape is individual according to each situation, depending on the depth, angulations and diameter of the implant. Sometimes it even dictates the implant position. From a surgical prospective, soft tissue height, position and thickness need to be diagnosed and corrected if necessary. From a prosthetic point of view the emergence profile has to be created so that it looks natural and, over time, maintains the natural soft tissue level, or the one created in the surgical phase.
