LAS VEGAS, Nev., USA: If you’re standing in the middle of AGD2017 at Caesars Palace not knowing where to look first, you aren’t alone. With multitudes of courses, hands-on workshops and new one-hour lectures, coupled with an exhibit hall full of companies offering the newest and most advanced products and technology all aimed at general practitioners, there is more to see and do than there is seemingly time for.
One of the highlights of the educational program so far is the all-new, one-hour lecture format that is premiering this year. The idea behind it, according to organizers, is to give attendees the opportunity to customize their education program by allowing them to select the specific aspects of a topic that matter most to them.
Some of the topics include “Acquiring and Motivating a Great Team” by Kirk Behrendt, BS; “Potpourri of Digital Equipment” by Paul Feuerstein, DMD; “Game Changers - Products to Improve Your Practice without Breaking Your Budget” by Douglas L. Lambert, DDS, FACD, FASDA, FASD, ABAD; “Successful Dental Partnerships: From Associate to Equity Partner” by Charles Loretto and “Why Every GP Must Also Be an Implantologist” by Parsa T. Zadeh DDS, FICOI, MAGD.
A good time to head over to the exhibit hall is between noon and 2 p.m. During those hours, educational programs are on a break in order to let attendees focus their full attention on the exhibitors and their products.
One booth of particular interest is the AGD Resource Pavilion. There, AGD staff are on hand to answer questions about membership as well as provide information on new and updated online tools, the AGD’s advocacy efforts on issues specific to general dentistry, educational programs featured in the AGD Online Learning Center, the fellowship and mastership awards and other exclusive members benefits, such as the AGD Member Savings and Offers program and AGD publications.
Another booth to go visit is Salvin Dental Specialties. The company is here unveiling CytoSurg Non-Resorbable PTFE Membranes and CytoSurg Non-Resorbable PTFE Sutures. According to Salvin, the new membrane is sufficiently firm to protect the defect, yet supple enough to drape over the surrounding tissue. It features a textured top surface to provide a scaffold for soft tissue and a smooth bottom surface against the bone for easy retrieval. The sutures, meanwhile, are an excellent choice for bone grafting and implant procedures. They are smooth and flexible so knots stay tied and feature a proprietary monofilament that reduces the potential for bacterial migration into the surgical site.
Over at the Shofu Dental booth, you can check out the EyeSpecial C-II digital dental camera, which was developed exclusively with the needs of dentistry in mind. According to Shofu, the camera achieves predictable and consistent clinical photographs for case documentation, diagnosis and treatment planning, patient communication and education, insurance verification, legal documentation and dental laboratory collaboration. Equipped with a 12-megapixel sensor and FlashMatic module — a proprietary system of ring and dual-point flashes — this smart camera demonstrates true-color reproduction with an exceptional depth-of-field range.
