Dental News - A buzz of activity: Chicago Midwinter Meeting kicks off three days of non-stop action

Even if the weather is frightful, it sure is delightful inside the McCormick Plaza West as the Chicago Dental Society Midwinter Meeting continues in Chicago. Running thru Saturday, this year’s event offers attendees the latest dental technology as well as the chance to learn from some of the industry’s most prominent speakers.

Plus, with more than 400 exhibitors, the exhibit hall is a buzz of activity and not just from the buzz of a dental drill.

New this year is a podcast lounge. Chicago Dental Society launched its own “Filling You In” podcast, and now there is a lounge for visiting podcasters to conduct interviews. It is located right on the exhibit floor. So stop by and say hello.

The exhibit floor is where you want to be to see the latest in dental technology and tools. This is your chance to get a hands-on approach to some of the products and services hitting the dental market. Representatives will be on site to help you in selecting what suits your office’s needs. And CDS members get a rebate toward purchases made on the exhibit floor.

The exhibit hall for this year’s event will be open Friday until 5:30 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Attendees looking for C.E. credit will have ample opportunities. Credits range from 1.5 credits for short lectures, 3 credits for longer lectures and 3 to 6 credits for workshops. There is still time to register for many of sessions you may be interested in attending although several of them require a fee. Make sure you have your badge with you at these sessions since the scan and the verification code are necessary for you to receive the credit.

Friday afternoon, check out Sips, Suds, and Sales, a new take on last year’s Brews and Bargains. Enjoy a glass of wine or beer and do some shopping with your favorite vendors. The event takes place from 3:15 to 5:15 p.m. and is open to all attendees.

Returning this year is the Early Career & New Dentist Reception. Taking place Friday from 5 to 6:30 p.m., join your colleagues to network and share stories about how your career is going. And for those who are still in dental school, the Dental School Reception will also be back at the exhibit floor Friday from 4 to 5:30 p.m. It’s your chance to meet students from different dental schools around the nation or mingle with current classmates.

To cap off the three-day meeting, grab your dance shoes and head over to the Hyatt Regency for the President’s Dinner Dance in the Crystal Ballroom. It begins at 7 p.m. Saturday and is a time for all attendees to celebrate the success of the Midwinter Meeting. The Chicago Catz band will provide the musical entertainment for the evening.
