The handyman of handpieces

For artists, it’s their paintbrush. For dental professionals, it’s their handpiece. They use it for nearly every procedure, and the way it feels in their hand can make all the difference in the world.

Most dentists and hygienists become loyal to one brand. The one they feel is just right for them. In order to maintain those instruments of artistry, one must rely upon a trusted handpiece repair partner.

Glenn Williams, founder and president of Handpiece Express, developed a unique approach to providing handpiece repairs for dental professionals. His goal was to offer friendly, personalized, hands-on service and manage the vast majority of repairs in-house.

By investing in diagnostic microspores and other state-of-the-art
technology, Handpiece Express is able to deliver the highest quality repairs, and it offers the type of customer service that you would expect only from a family owned and operated business.

For more than 20 years, Williams and his tech, Greg Humenik, have worked to establish relationships with all of the major handpiece manufacturers. They attend dedicated manufacturer training courses to learn about the intricacies of each manufacturer’s products and to best understand the product specifications.

“After selling dental products for leading companies, I recognized that every office needed service support for their handpieces, one of the most utilized instruments in the practice,” Williams said.

“Yet it seemed that more than half of the offices were not satisfied with their handpiece repair tech. I noticed it led them to using handpieces longer, which resulted in more sway and chatter, affecting their clinical outcomes. Therefore, I decided to build a company that focuses on one thing and be the best at it.”

Trust becomes a key factor in the dental professional–repair tech relationship. Dentists and hygienists know when their handpiece is “a little off.” Yet replacing the handpiece or using the backup, which is sometimes an inferior product, is disruptive to practice workflow.

When the repair tech builds trust, the customers know they will receive timely turnaround and won’t be unnecessarily up-sold products or services.

Handpiece Express provides boutique, hands-on service for dental practices in the San Francisco and Northern California area, and it’s not uncommon for Williams or one of the team to make a delivery or pickup at 7 a.m. or 7 p.m.
