IRVINE, Calif., USA: In CAD/CAM dentistry, users are generally proficient at posterior restorations. However, many dentists dread anterior restorations, as they provide more challenges in terms of line angles, incisal edges, emergence profile, texture and characterization. In a webinar presented by the Dental Tribune Study Club on Sept. 3, an expert will introduce the design techniques that are available to dental professionals with CEREC software and will explain when to use which.

"In my experience with anterior restorations the final result is always enhanced by doing some kind of post-mill contouring. This could just be refining the anatomy or scribing developmental grooves to produce more realistic results. I will review techniques that can be done quickly and efficiently to contour restorations post-mill," said Dr. Dhaval Patel, the presenter of the online course.

The approximately one-hour webinar will teach participants to use the correct design technique in every situation. Patel will explain when to stain and glaze restorations to create a lifelike appearance and when only to polish the restoration for an optimal result. Moreover, he will demonstrate how to scribe developmental grooves and contour restorations for realistic outcomes.

Patel graduated from Maharashtra University of Health Sciences in India in 2003. He is the owner dentist of Pleasant Grove Dental Group and Orthodontics in Roseville, Calif. and is supported by Pacific Dental Services (PDS), an organization that provides business support services to dentists. Patel serves as a mentor, associate trainer, and dental advisory board member for PDS and is a CEREC subject matter expert for the PDS Institute.

The webinar, titled "Demystify Anterior CEREC: 3 Secrets to Esthetic Restorations," is free of charge and will be broadcast online on Thursday, Sept. 3 at 8 p.m. EST. Participants will be able to ask questions via a chat window and have the opportunity to earn continuing education credits by completing a multiple-choice questionnaire on the topic discussed.

Registration for the webinar is now open on the DT Study Club website, www.dtstudyclub.com.
