MELBOURNE, Fla., USA/Washington, D.C., USA: The Harris Corporation in Melbourne, Florida, has been awarded a one-year recompete contract by the U.S. Army Dental Command (DENCOM), a program that provides dental care to members of the U.S. military. Under the multimillion-dollar agreement, which is part of the Network Centric Solutions support contract between the U.S. Department of Defense and commercial communications and IT providers, the company is to maintain IT services for DENCOM’s headquarters in Fort Sam, Houston, and its dental clinics worldwide.
Harris currently provides a wide range of communication systems for military and civil use. With an estimated annual revenue of more than US$2 billion, the company is the 13th largest contractor for the U.S. Department of Defense, according to figures from the Government Information Group in Falls Church, Virginia. Harris has provided IT services to Army dental clinics since 2008, when the company was awarded a three-year contract with annual renewal options for two years.
Founded in 1911, the U.S. Army Dental Care System operates 147 dental clinics worldwide, as well as a dental laboratory. Its staff consists of over 5,000 dentists and other personnel, who are stationed in the U.S. and Germany.
