According to the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, 69 percent of adults ages 35 to 44 have lost at least one permanent tooth to an accident, gum disease, a failed root canal or tooth decay. Furthermore, by age 74, 26 percent of adults have lost all of their permanent teeth. That creates a large market for dental implants in the United States alone.
SunTech Custom Implant Abutments from Sun Dental Labs come in titanium, zirconia and hybrid materials, are platform-independent and are available for all major implant systems, including 3 I - Astra, Nobel Biocare Branemark, Nobel Biocare Replace, Zimmer and BioHorizons.
“SunTech custom implant abutments have become more popular in the past few years because of the flexibility in design and precision. Implants and custom abutments now make up almost 2 percent of our annual revenue,” explained Chuck Tagliarino, vice president of operations for Sun Dental Labs. “From mini-implants to surgical stents to screw-retained overdentures, our customers are calling and asking for case-planning assistance on a daily basis. Our new CAD/CAM department makes the design and manufacture of our implant abutments faster and more accurate than ever before.”
The features and benefits of Custom Implant Abutment include the following:
- Custom designed for each patient.
- Precision technology minimizes manual adjustments.
- Optimize soft tissue contours and crown esthetics.
- Ensure excellent gingival health.
- Eliminate the need for stock inventory abutments.
Which material is right for your patient?
While material selection is up to the dentist, there are reasons to choose between titanium, zirconia and hybrid styles.
- Choose titanium when strength and durability are a consideration and there are no metal allergies.
- Choose zirconia when the implant is significantly below the gingival tissues and the potential abutment would extend to the implant with a collar of metal from the implant to the apical margin of the restoration, there is a high likelihood of the gray color of the abutment metal showing through the gingival tissues. Also, if an all-ceramic crown is planned for an implant abutment, zirconia abutments provide a better esthetic result than metal abutments.
- Choose a hybrid for the best of both worlds.
