SAN ANTONIO: It was definitely not the same old thing at the 2011 Texas Meeting, which took place May 5-8. All around the meeting, there were new speakers, new events and new courses. For the first time, a certification course for dental assistants on the application of pit and fissure sealants was offered, as well as a course on coronal polishing.

For the first time in a long time, there were courses from some of the most prestigious speakers in the world for both dentists and lab technicians.

The Council on Annual Sessions is aware of how important the dentist/lab technician relationship is in the dental team concept, and thus the “Lab Track” offered five session options, culminating with lunch and an open forum, hosted by Dr. Mark Murphy, to discuss the “Role of the Dentist/Laboratory Technician in a Digital World.”

Altogether, there were more than 220 classes offering the most up-to-date information on a variety of topics, presented by 90 speakers, including Drs. Lee Brady, Gary DeWood, Bob Winter and Steve Ratcliff from the Spear Institute, Dr. Jim Fondriest, laboratory ceramist Matt Roberts, Dr. Michael Unthank, Dr. Joseph Massad on prosthodontics and Jo Ann Majors on implant marketing.

The exhibit hall was the place to find more than 500 exhibitor booths as well as the TDA Pavilion, TDA Smiles Foundation, DENPAC Silent Auction and the TDA Perks Program partners.

In addition, there was a digital caricature artist, happy hours, and Dr. Bud Luecke and his band Morning performed at the Texas party.
