CHARLOTTE, N.C., USA: Rebecca L. Slayton, DDS, PhD has been named chief dental officer of the National Children’s Oral Health Foundation: America’s Toothfairy (NCOHF). She will continue to chair the NCOHF Scientific Advisory Board while assuming responsibility for oral health messaging, approval of preventive strategies and treatment protocols.
Dr Slayton is Professor and Chair of the Department of Pediatric Dentistry at the University of Iowa. She is a board certified Pediatric Dentist and a diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry. Prior to coming to Iowa in 2008, she served on the faculty at the University of Washington School of Dentistry as the graduate program director and the Chair of the Pediatric Dentistry Department at Oregon Health & Science University. She serves on the Council for Scientific Affairs and the Scientific Program Committee of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (AAPD) and is a member of the Executive Committee of the Section on Oral Health for the American Academy of Pediatrics.
In addition to serving as an examiner for the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry and a site visitor for the Commission on Dental Accreditation, Dr Slayton is a member of the AAPD, the American College of Dentists, the American Association of Dental Research, the American Dental Association and the American Dental Education Association. She is the co-editor of a textbook entitled Early Childhood Oral Health and the Special Issue on Children’s Oral Health, published recently by Academic Pediatrics. She has authored two textbook chapters and published numerous peer-reviewed articles.
