LIVINGSTON, N.J., & WOODINVILLE, Wash., USA: Aseptico has been announced as new distributor for Milestone Scientific's Single Tooth Anesthesia (STA) in the North American market. Under the terms of the agreement, the West Coast manufacturer will be allowed to distribute the system and all its disposable parts exclusively to dental professionals in Canada and the U.S.

Both companies said that Aseptico will be showcasing the STA at upcoming dental and pediatric exhibitions in both countries and provide further marketing support through ad campaigns and electronic mailings. Further details will be disclosed in the upcoming weeks.

Up to now, Milestone has been marketing the system to dental offices and clinics in the U.S. and Canada directly. The new partnership with Aseptico is expected to give the company access to a database of 150,000 dentists. Milestone Chief Executive Director Leonard Osser said in a statement that it will also help to focus his company's internal resources on research and development.

"We see this partnership as means to rapidly and cost-effectively deepen our penetration into the U.S. and Canadian dental markets," he commented.

Having received regulatory approval for the system by the FDA in 2006, Milestone launched the STA in the U.S. market only a few months later. Utilizing a patented pressure-measuring technique called CompuFlo, the system, which consists of a drive unit and handpiece, allows the targeted anesthesia of a single tooth through the periodontal ligament, a procedure often difficult to achieve through commonly used procedures like inferior alveolar nerve anesthesia.

Among other benefits, the STA allows for less painful injections and a significantly shorter preparation time compared with block anesthesia, according to the company.

Besides North America, the system is currently available through distributors in Europe, South America, Africa, the Middle East and Asia. In October, Milestone announced that it had received clearance by the State Food and Drug Administration in Beijing to market the device in China.
