ST. PAUL, Minn., & MELVILLE, N.Y., USA: Health and dental care products provider Henry Schein has been selected as first U.S. distributor of 3M ESPE's newest digital impression system. The 3M True Definition Scanner will be marketed by the New York-based company on a non-exclusive basis as a stand-alone system or full chairside CAD/CAM solution, integrating technology from D4D Technologies.

Customers with a need for a full chairside milling system will have access to D4D's E4D Design Center and E4D Mill, the company said. Both solutions have been available through Henry Schein since 2006, when both firms signed a business agreement for the development of the technology that also involved 3M ESPE and European-based dental manufacturer Ivoclar Vivadent. The True Definition system will also allow for connectivity with other third-party systems via the 3M Connection Center platform, Henry Schein said.

The company announced it will also offer installation services and customer support for the system through its network of customer centers in the U.S.

3M ESPE launched the True Definition Scanner system featuring 3D-in-motion technology for almost real-time capture, among other things, in the U.S. in mid-October. As the company's first product entry in this field, the device is marketed as being more flexible and accurate than other systems on the market. It will be available for a low recommended retail price of less than $12,000, 3M ESPE revealed in a statement.

The availability of the system in other markets was not disclosed.
