BOSTON, Mass., USA: The 2013 Yankee Dental Congress was held Jan. 30 to Feb. 3 at the Boston Convention & Exhibition Center. The meeting was chock-full of educational courses — hands-on workshops, a dentist as CEO series, a program geared for students and new dentists and more. In addition, more than 450 companies exhibited their products and services.

Education didn’t just take place in the classrooms. Those who wandered into the exhibit could find an array of learning opportunities. For instance, Dr. Charles Schlesinger performed a simple implant placement and restoration live in the Live Dentistry Theater. His session was sponsored by OCO Biomedical. Later, Dr. Joshua Howard performed minimally invasive guided implant surgery using CAD/CAM and 3-D imaging.

The Healthy Living Pavilion featured a number of offerings, including “Women, Weight and Food,” “Nutrients and Antioxidents: All Winter Long” and “Why an Apple a Day May NOT Keep the Doctor Away.”

For those considering implementing new dental equipment or technology into their practice, there was the Dental Office Pavilion, presented by Henry Schein Dental.

The exhibit hall offered plenty of finds, as well. Dental Tribune stopped by a number of booths to see what was new and exciting.

The folks at Shofu Dental Corp. were reporting strong interest in BeautiSealant, a tooth-colored, fluoride recharging, pit and fissure sealant with a self-etching primer that speeds treatment time by eliminating the need for phosphoric acid etching. According to the company, the product helps preserve healthy enamel that is easily demineralized with harsh acid-etchants, while still maintaining superior bond strength.

Vogue Medical Apparel/Sols Threads offered a line of fashionable uniforms. Imprinted with visually appealing artwork on high-quality fabric, the garments allow wearers to express individuality. “We all have the need to express ourselves,” said Michael Edison. “Our mission is to design scrubs and lab coats that are functional, well-fitting, comfortable and fashionable.” The company also offers T-shirts whose designs change from black and white to color when exposed to the sun.

P3 Plus Dental, a new exhibitor at Yankee, created a system allowing dental practices to offer discount plans to their patients with ease. “Offering in-office discount plans to patients is becoming more and more popular as a way of increasing case acceptance and new patients, as well as decreasing cancellations,” said Lisa Frascolla. The company also offers a variety of helpful templates, as well as training and marketing tools.

TelephoneOnHold.com offered what it calls an affordable, effective and easy means of communicating with patients who call your practice. “Our experienced staff will work directly with you to implement an appropriate on-hold marketing strategy,” said Justin Ginsberg. The recordings are high-quality, well-written and professionally produced, he said.

Attendees could see the PerioLase MVP-7 at the Millennium Dental Technologies booth. It’s described as the first laser in the dental industry to incorporate an Android-based digital display and control system. The PerioLase MVP-7 for the LANAP protocol combines its advanced laser components with the latest LCD display technology for the optimum operating experience.

The folks at VOCO were describing the company’s recently launched GrandioSO Inlay System as the first chairside inlay system of its kind. The all-in-one solution kit offers all the matching components to fabricate 15 indirect composite inlays. The chairside fabrication of indirect composite inlays is quick and easy and saves the cost of expensive CAD-CAM equipment or lab bills.

For those who might be lacking in social networking skills, there was Likeable Dentists, a company that knows all the ins and outs of Facebook and Twitter. “With our proven tools, methods and experience, we can help you grow your practice and become a local leader in oral health care,” said the company, which specializes in social media management, Facebook advertising and office marketing. It also offers webinars on social media best practices.

For those who wish to expand into dental headache care, there was TruDenta, a company that offers resources and referral tools. “Existing patients immediately benefit from the technology and training provided by TruDenta, enabling instant revenue growth,” the company said.
