Caplanis is elected president of AAID

WASHINGTON, D.C., USA: The American Academy of Implant Dentistry elected Nicholas Caplanis, DMD, MS, of Mission Viejo, Calif., as president at its 61st annual meeting. Elected to serve as president-elect was John C. Minichetti, DMD, of Englewood, N.J. The newly elected vice president is John Da Silva, DMD, MPH, ScM, of Boston. Richard Mercurio, DDS, of Lincroft, N.J., was elected treasurer and the newly elected secretary is Shankar Iyer, DDS, MDS, of Elizabeth, N.J.

Members of the AAID Board of Trustees include:

  • James L. Bush, DDS, of Goodlettsville, Tenn. (immediate past president)
  • Francis DuCoin, DMD, of Stuart, Fla. (past presidents’ representative)
  • Adam Foleck, DMD, of Norfolk, Va.
  • David Gimer, DDS, of Iowa Falls, Iowa
  • Steven Hewett, DDS, of Winter Haven, Fla.
  • Steve Holbrook, DMD, of Albuquerque, N.M.
  • Christopher Hughes, DMD, of Herrin, Ill.
  • Brian J. Jackson, DDS, of Utica, N.Y.
  • Philip Kroll, DDS, of Ventura, Calif.
  • Stephen Swallow, DDS, of Kittery, Maine.

Established in 1951, the AAID is the only implant organization that offers implant credentials recognized by federal and state courts as bona fide.

Its membership, which exceeds 4,300, includes general dentists, oral surgeons, periodontists and prosthodontists from across the United States and 40 other countries.
