Dental News - BIOLASE appoints new Director of Operations

IRVINE, Calif., USA: BIOLASE Technology, a US dental laser manufacturer and distributor, has announced that it has named veteran operations management executive Richard Whipp Director of Operations, effective immediately. He will report to Chairman and CEO Federico Pignatelli and CFO Fred Furry.

Fifty-nine-year-old Whipp has 30 years of experience in manufacturing and operations. He began his career in 1978 as a senior programme planner and gradually worked his way into increasingly more responsible manufacturing management positions at such companies as Conrac Industries and Gulton Industries.

Prior to joining BIOLASE, Whipp spent 13 years in operations at Discus Dental, the dental services and software division of Philips Electronics. Whipp was Senior Director of Operations at Discus Dental and was responsible for its manufacturing and distribution operations, with direct experience in diode-laser supply chain management and lean manufacturing.

I have worked in operations in the dental industry for the past 12 years and am confident that my experience with lean manufacturing and supply chain management will make an immediate and positive impact,” Whipp told Dental Tribune ONLINE. “I am excited about the opportunity to be part of the new BIOLASE management team dedicated to expanding our revolutionary technology in dentistry and medicine, improving operations, and increasing shareholder value. As Director of Operations, my focus will be to ensure that BIOLASE continues to manufacture and deliver high quality products and value-added services to its customers.”

“Rick has the range of experience and expertise we need to manage our expanding production,” Pignatelli explained. “We are experiencing very strong demand across our product platforms and Rick’s operations experience and managerial skills will be important in helping us improve our supply chain management and in coordinating our manufacturing operations as we continue to grow,” he added.
