NEW YORK, USA/LEIPZIG, Germany: Dentists in the USA now have access to the new OsseoSpeed TX line from Astra Tech. The Sweden-based manufacturer launched the latest version of its implant system last week at the Annual Meeting of the Academy of Osseointegration (AO) in Orlando. It will be available through Astra Tech’s subsidiary in Waltham, Massachusetts, and feature a modified tapered apex design for easier implant installation especially in soft bone where under-preparation is often desired, the company said.

Astra Tech's BioManagement Complex, which was introduced in version 4.0 S to improve biomechanical bone stimulation and integration of the implant, will also be maintained. According to a German study, the mean marginal bone level reduction is only 0.3 millimeters during the first year of loading when using the Astra Tech implant system.

Scott Root, President and CEO of Astra Tech North America stated that his company was pleased with the response at the AO Annual Meeting. “We are confident that this new modification will help to further simplify the implant treatment procedure for all our customers while still delivering the optimal results they’ve come to expect.”

Astra Tech currently has an estimated market share of under 10 per cent in North America.
