CHICAGO, Ill., USA: Representatives of the dental community, including 11 organized dentistry groups, recently came together for a special cocktail reception to celebrate the Academy of General Dentistry’s new office building. The reception featured cocktails, hors d’oeuvres and live jazz music at the new AGD Headquarters, located in Chicago’s West Loop neighborhood.
“Now that we’ve settled into our new space, we wanted to invite our friends and colleagues from the dental community to an event where they could kick back, enjoy the atmosphere, and tour our new home,” said AGD President Linda J. Edgar, DDS, MEd, MAGD.
In addition to the reception, held Feb. 20, leaders from five allied organizations — the American Dental Association, the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, the Dental Trade Alliance, the American Dental Assistants Association and the American Academy of Periodontology — met with Edgar and AGD President-Elect W. Carter Brown, DMD, FAGD; Vice President W. Mark Donald, DMD, MAGD; Executive Director/CEO John A. Thorner, JD, CAE; and Assistant Executive Director Dan Buksa at AGD Headquarters on Feb. 20 and 21.
“Our new office space was designed to nurture a collaborative environment, and it was a pleasure to welcome industry leaders into that atmosphere,” Thorner said. “We’re proud of our new home, as well as the innovative ideas that this refreshed setting has inspired.”
The AGD purchased the majority ownership of a seven-story building at 560 W. Lake St. in August 2012. The organization’s 71 employees moved into the new space in September 2013, filling 30,000 square feet on the top two floors. The new AGD Headquarters is twice the size of the organization’s previous location, a rented space in the American Dental Association building.
