Excitement is in the air at the Georgia World Congress Center and Omni Hotel at CNN Center, as the 2022 Thomas P. Hinman Dental Meeting gets underway. From today (March 17) until Saturday, you can partake in top-notch educational opportunities, see the industry’s newest products and technology, and enjoy special events with your compatriots.

As everyone gathered in Atlanta knows, there’s really no substitute to being on site each spring. Meeting organizers have designed the event in such a way as to offer something for everyone.

If you’re headed to the classrooms, there are 245 lectures and workshops being presented by 60 experts in the dental profession. This year there is a special “Women Dentist Program,” as well as newly added educational tracks for new dentists, hygienists, assistants and dental business office staff.

“Hinman 2022 is filled with new educational programs and courses designed to help us all reconnect, continue to learn the latest in dentistry and find renewed inspiration as dental professionals,” said Dr. Kate Robinson, general chair for Hinman 2022. “Our theme this year reflects the moment we find ourselves in — ‘Navigating Dental Disruptions.’ We’ve all lived and worked through a global pandemic, which has presented enormous challenges, but we also find opportunities from this adversity and the chance to gather once again to share best practices and learn from one another.”

On the show floor, there are nearly 300 exhibiting companies on hand showcasing equipment, products and services. There are offerings available for the entire dental practice.

“Our vast exbibit hall features hundreds of exhibitors, as well as several lounges where you can relax after a busy day or catch up with friends and colleagues,” Robinson said.

Attendees can obtain free continuing education credit in the exhibit hall. Table Clinics, held in the back of Aisle 1900, offer more than 100 table-top presentations that are approximately 10 minutes in length and are provided by volunteers, including military personnel, in the dental community. Participants receive one hour of C.E. credit for each hour they spend in the table clinic area.

Of special interest is the Keynote Session, featuring comedian Kathleen Madigan. A veteran of the “Tonight Show,” “The Late Show With David Letterman” and “Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee,” Madigan also hosts “Blue Collar Comedy” on Sirius XM.

The hub of excitement is, of course, the exhibit hall, where hundreds of companies are displaying their wares. In addition, many special events and offerings are taking place.

When you’re on the show floor, be sure to explore the following:

  • Total Health Pavilion — The Total Health Pavilion offers free C.E. (and coffee!) in a comfortable setting. You can also get a CIMT scan, a 10-minute ultrasound procedure on your neck that can save your life.
  • Table Clinics — These 10-minute scientific presentations are given by volunteers in the dental community. Receive a code for one hour of C.E. credit for each hour that you spend in the table clinics area.
  • Learning Lab Pavilion — Free C.E. presented by various exhibitors is available. Learn about new products and techniques that can help improve efficiency and profitability in your practice.
  • Participation Courses — If you’re seeking a hands-on learning experience, you can select from several different participation courses, which are located throughout the exhibit hall.
  • Social Media Lounge — Visit this booth to take a photo with the life-sized Hinman signature and check out DentalCast Productions, which is livestreaming in the lounge, courtesy of Dental Intelligence.
  • Podcast Lounge — Bring your device charger to plug in and relax in this comfortable lounge. While you’re here you can listen in while popular dental podcasters record their episodes.
  • Hinman Shop — Before you depart the meeting, be sure to stop by this booth, to select from a variety of souvenirs that include t-shirts, water bottles, tote bags, teddy bears and more. Proceeds are used by the Hinman Trustees for scholarships to support the future of dentistry.

The Hinman meeting is known as one of the nation’s leading dental events and a comprehensive source of continuing education in dentistry. The event is sponsored by the Hinman Dental Society, a non-profit organization, and all excess revenue is invested and then gifted in the form of scholarships to individuals and institutions that foster dental education. The society has provided more than $10 million in total giving to date.
