Swiss dentists Drs. Haley and Goly Abivardi are internationally renowned innovators and entrepreneurs, as well as the CEOs and founders of vVARDIS. This Swiss dental company manufactures Curodont Repair Fluoride Plus—a unique biomimetic system for treating early caries through guided enamel remineralization—among other oral care products. In this interview, the sisters reflect on their journey and share their vision for the future of dentistry.

Drs. Abivardi, could you share how your early experiences as dentists in Switzerland shaped your journey and inspired your work today?
Dr. Haley Abivardi: As dentists, we understood the vital link between oral health and overall well-being, and this inspired us to focus on children and run a public pediatric dental clinic connected to primary schools for preventive care. Many of our young patients came from low-income families, and their parents often sought help too late, owing to either a lack of awareness or anxiety about dental visits. It was heartbreaking to see these children suffer because of these barriers.

Dr. Goly Abivardi: These early experiences shaped our commitment to creating a fear-free, patient-centered approach and to prioritizing prevention, accessibility and innovation for better oral health. We opened the first Swiss dental support organization (DSO) inspired by this vision and ran our own dental hygiene school. Today, with vVARDIS, we are continuing that mission by enhancing patient care with noninvasive solutions and making these accessible to all.

“By addressing early caries proactively, we can ensure better outcomes and a more positive dental experience.”

Dr. Goly Abivardi, CEO and founder of vVARDIS

What led to your reputation as innovators in patient care, and how did these efforts evolve over time?
Dr. Haley Abivardi: We had always scouted for new innovations and improvements in oral healthcare and, some time ago, were thrilled to discover, in our clinical studies, an innovation that treats early caries by mimicking nature. We imagined the impact this solution could have on people’s lives. That’s when we made the life-changing decision to sell our DSO and found vVARDIS, driven by our mission to make this innovation accessible to everyone—including underserved populations who need it most.

Are there particular experiences or moments that deeply influenced your decision to focus on innovation and accessibility?
Dr. Goly Abivardi: In our clinics, we made the decision to provide free dental care to the homeless, restoring their smiles with implants and crowns. The transformation we witnessed in their lives was profoundly moving. Reflecting on the pain and suffering of many young patients—often due to poor oral health—these moments affected us deeply. They reinforced our belief that something was missing, and we felt compelled to do more.

Curodont Repair Fluoride Plus has become a flagship product for vVARDIS. What sets it apart in the treatment of early caries?
Dr. Haley Abivardi: Curodont Repair Fluoride Plus addresses a common issue that affects 80% of patients in the dental chair: early caries, often found on interproximal sites or as white spots after orthodontic treatment. As dental professionals, we refer to these as “watch areas” because, until now, there has been no effective solution. Leaving patients untreated can lead to caries progression and an increased risk of severe secondary disease.

Dr. Goly Abivardi: What makes Curodont Repair Fluoride Plus unique is its ability to treat these watch areas with a noninvasive solution during the same appointment. In just 5 minutes, this painless treatment provides a quick, effective and comfortable solution with no staining or unpleasant taste—making it suitable for all patients. By addressing early caries proactively, we can ensure better outcomes and a more positive dental experience.

Dental professionals seem to be embracing Curodont with enthusiasm. What do you believe makes it so significant for both clinicians and patients?
Dr. Haley Abivardi: It is very encouraging to see the before-and-after cases shared by dental professionals and to have the support of the academic world, including ongoing collaborations with leading dental schools. This solution supports dental professionals in transforming their approach by addressing the subclinical signs of caries with a nonsurgical medical treatment.

Curodont offers a noninvasive and easy-to-apply solution that enhances patient care and outcomes. More than 200,000 teeth have been treated with this product in the U.S. over the past two years, enabling early intervention for watch areas that were previously left untreated.

Additionally, Curodont drives practice efficiency. In certain states, hygienists can apply it during routine appointments, boosting hygiene productivity and freeing up chair time for the dentist.

Looking ahead, what innovations or developments can we expect from vVARDIS in the near future?
Dr. Goly Abivardi: We will continue building awareness of Curodont, providing services to our partners and delivering education and support to dental professionals. Our mission remains focused on facilitating access to Curodont for everyone, including those in underserved communities with limited access to traditional dental services.
