ATLANTA, Ga., USA: The Thomas P. Hinman Dental Meeting — a comprehensive source of continuing education in dentistry — will host its centennial meeting March 22 to 24. The 100th Hinman will feature more than 65 world-class dental experts; more than 250 courses, including 50 hands-on workshops; all-day educational tracks for dentists, dental hygienists, assistants, and office staff; and nearly 400 companies demonstrating the latest in dentistry.

At least 23,000 dental professionals are expected to attend the 100th meeting, to be held at the Georgia World Congress Center (GWCC) in Atlanta.

“We couldn’t be more excited to be celebrating the 100th Hinman and in honor of this special occasion, we have lined up an impressive roster of speakers, innovative exhibits and the parties of the century,” said Dr. Allen French, general chairman of the 2012 Hinman Dental Meeting. “What started as a study club in 1912 has grown to become one of the preeminent dental meetings in the country with a 100-year legacy of excellence.”

Hinman’s 2012 continuing education (CE) program will feature more than 65 nationally renowned clinicians and leaders in the field of dentistry and more than 250 lectures and workshops, a quarter of which are participation courses.

New this year to Hinman is a three-day educational track, “Emerging Dentist’s Survival Guide,” designed for new dentists and dental students. Courses will be held on Thursday, March 22, 1 to 4 p.m.; Friday, March 23, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and Saturday, March 24, 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. In addition, an all-day Pankey Institute session will be held on Saturday, March 24, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. “Looks Great, Feels Great, Functions Great – The Pankey Edge in 2012” features four lectures in two sessions that are designed for dentists and students.

The “Business Fast Track” returns this year and offers a total of eight courses held on Thursday, March 22 and Friday, March 23. Also returning for a third year are the all-day educational tracks designed specifically for dental hygienists, dental assistants and business office staff. “Prevention Convention,” on Thursday, March 22, 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Friday, March 23, 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., is for hygienists; “Assisting Extravaganza,” on Friday, March 23, 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., is for dental assistants; and “Business Office Bonanza,” also on Friday, March 23, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., is for office staff. All three full-day tracks feature six 50-minute lectures and cover a broad range of topics geared to the dental staff member.

In addition, the 2012 meeting will offer attendees a broad range of topics from which to choose; daily ADAA courses; online handouts available in advance of the meeting; and a computerized CE process to eliminate lines at the end of courses.

“For the past 100 years, Hinman has provided quality continuing education for dental professionals and has delivered on its promise to inspire attendees on every level,” said French. “The centennial Hinman brings together the best in education, exhibits and entertainment.”

In addition to a complete continuing education program, Hinman will feature nearly 400 companies — located conveniently in one hall and on one level. Exhibitors will showcase new technology, equipment, products and services for the entire dental staff. New this year and in honor of the 100th meeting, the exhibit hall will feature Dental Office Pavilions, a special “100 Years of Hinman” exhibit, and a New Product Pavilion with the latest innovations.

This year’s meeting highlights also include:

  • Thursday’s Keynote Session, featuring former first lady Mrs. Laura Bush.
  • A special Centennial Prize Program that includes diamond and $100-bill giveaways, Delta Air Line tickets, two resort vacations, and more.
  • A Dental Student Orientation Reception held Friday afternoon at 4 p.m. to familiarize dental students with the Hinman Dental Meeting and the continuing education process.
  • Two “Parties of the Century” — the Dentist Reception and Auxiliary Reception — held on Friday night in the Omni Hotel.

As a non-profit organization dedicated to the advancement of the dental profession, the Hinman Dental Society will present scholarships and gifts totaling more than $250,000 to approximately 92 dental, dental hygiene, laboratory technician and dental assisting students at colleges and universities throughout the Southeast, as well as dental education groups and clinics. As in years past, the scholarships will be presented at the Scholars’ Luncheon held on Saturday during the meeting.

The Hinman Dental Meeting is designed with a commitment to quality and professionalism and a high regard for the value of continuing education. The Hinman program meets the continuing education requirements set by the Academy of General Dentistry and State Boards of Dentistry.
