Live from Hinman: In-person and virtual offerings
It’s been more than a year since those in the dental industry have been able to meet up in person, but at the Thomas P. Hinman Dental Meeting, being held Friday, March 12, and Saturday, March 13, the opportunity has finally arrived for those who want to embrace it.
And for those who prefer to attend the meeting from the comfort and safety of their own home, that can also be accommodated.
For the first time, a meeting is being held both virtually and in-person, at the Omni Atlanta Hotel at CNN Center, enabling everyone to attend in the method that works best for them.
Hinman, considered to be one of the nation’s largest dental meetings, will be offering an educational program that includes more than 45 in-person courses and more than 40 virtual courses, including live Q&As with the speakers, as well as an in-person and virtual exhibit hall.
“We’ve planned an exceptional program for Hinman 2021 that includes innovative live and virtual courses delivered by the world’s foremost dental experts,” said Dr. Robert J. O’Donnell, general chair of Hinman 2021, in a press release sent out before the meeting. “While observing social distancing and safety precautions, attendees can take advantage of hands-on participation courses, lectures, a scaled down exhibit hall and the keynote session. Whether they attend in person or virtually, registered professionals can meet their continuing education requirements, learn the latest developments in dentistry and connect with colleagues in new and exciting ways.”
Hinman’s livestreamed Keynote Session will be held Friday, March 12, from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m., with a viewing party option for in-person attendees at the College Football Hall of Fame. It will feature Air Force Colonel (Ret.) Nicole Malachowski, the first female Thunderbirds pilot and one of the first women to fly modern fighters in combat. As a leader, combat veteran, White House Fellow and inductee into the Women in Aviation International Pioneer Hall of Fame, Malachowski had a distinguished 21-year Air Force career. It came to an end when a devastating tick-borne illness left her unable to speak or walk for 10 months.
Malachowski will share how she fought back, along with other stories from her career and personal life, that will inspire you to rethink the challenges you face every day.
In-person course offerings
Beginning 7 a.m. March 12, Hinman will offer more than 45 courses across two days. Course topics range from implant complications, sleep apnea and restorative challenges in seniors to opioid and vape usage, sedation and achieving five-star customer service in the practice. Speakers include Dr. Mark Hyman, Dr. Harold Crossley, Dr. Randy Huffines, Dr. Sully Sullivan, Ms. Janice Hurley and Dr. Roger Levin, among others.
Virtual course offerings
In addition to Hinman 2021’s in-person courses, more than 40 virtual courses will be offered simulive, which means they will be prerecorded and broadcast at a designated time during the meeting with the speaker available in the chat and Q&A portion of the course. These courses will then be available on-demand through April 12.
Virtual course topics range from restoration challenges, COVID communications and new product demonstrations to pathologies, contemporary ceramics and pediatric dentistry. Speakers include Dr. Gordon Christensen, Dr. Lee Ann Brady, Ms. Lois Banta, Dr. David Clark, Ms. Karen Davis, Dr. Michael Fling, Dr. Kenneth Hargreaves, Dr. Samuel Low and more.
Live virtual participation course
Hinman 2021 also will offer its first live virtual participation course on Friday, March 12, from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. Attendees will need access to a handpiece and curing light and will receive a supply kit in advance. Course VFr100, “Better, Faster, Prettier Composites,” will feature Dr. David Clark broadcasting live from his home office.
All virtual lectures are included in the registration fee. You do not need to register in advance.
For in-person courses, attendees must have registered by March 1. There will not be an on-site registration option this year. Masks will be required and social distancing guidelines will be followed.
