NEW YORK, N.Y., USA: The Institute for Advanced Laser Dentistry (IALD) has declared war on gum disease in an effort to bring public attention to the overwhelming number of Americans with untreated periodontitis who are also at risk for serious health conditions that have been linked to the disease, including heart disease, stroke, some cancers and stillbirths.
The organization is spearheading efforts to raise awareness of public health threats associated with periodontitis. As a direct result of the IALD’s efforts, governors of 19 states have issued official proclamations to support statewide Gum Disease Awareness observances.
The IALD is the only dental organization to successfully attract state-level attention to gum disease as a serious and widespread health threat. The organization is offering educational resources, facts, treatment information and more via Facebook and Twitter pages to a growing community of nearly 6,000 followers. More information is available at www.fightgumdisease.org.
A grassroots swelling of support within the dental community and social media has taken hold.
