More than 30 years ago, Dr. Daniel S. Kim, then a young prosthodontist in training, was assigned a patient who had lost a crown. Kim found that the dentin of the abutment tooth under the crown had decayed, causing the crown to fall off after only two years. After years of research, he learned that overly tight proximal contacts had prevented the complete marginal seating of the crown, and he developed a concept of interproximal relief (IR).
In proximal contact adjustment, it is important that dentists restore the microscopic clearance or passive contact to relieve pressure between the proximal contact surfaces of indirect restorations and the adjacent teeth. It was Kim’s determination not just to understand common clinical problems like this, but also to solve them that led to the founding of ContacEZ.
Since its inception, ContacEZ has continued to develop new and innovative products to solve the everyday practical problems dentists face, making excellent dentistry simple and easy. Initially, the Restorative Strip System, the company’s flagship product line, was designed to solve that initial issue of improper proximal contacts of dental restorations by simplifying crown seating and finishing.

For traditional orthodontics and clear aligner therapy, the IPR Strip System was developed to eliminate the stress associated with interproximal enamel stripping and ensures patient comfort and safety. The company’s newest product, PrepSure, Crown Prep Guide, ensures the creation of adequate occlusal clearance during crown preparations, addressing one of the most pervasive problems in operative dentistry.
By solving common issues in dental practices, the company’s mission is to help dentists focus on what matters most — quality patient care. While each ContacEZ product line is intended to make life easier for the dentist, the heart of their appeal is always a benefit for the patients. With the Restorative Strip System and PrepSure, patients receive longer-lasting, healthier restorations that feel more natural and comfortable in their mouths from the moment they are seated. With the IPR Strip System, patients do not need to worry about cuts to lips or gums, hypersensitivity from over-reduction of tooth structure, or sharp corners or deep ledges that tend to come with other reproximation methods.
