Spring is a time when many manufacturers like to introduce dental products, and there are no better places to launch new offerings than at places like the Midwinter Meeting in Chicago, USA, and the IDS in Cologne, Germany. From the latest tools for endodontic instrumentation and obturation to the newest bonding agents and adhesives, there is something for everybody on the exhibit hall floor — on either side of the Atlantic.

While the list of product highlights below is by no means comprehensive, here is a sampling of some of the new products that are available:

Obtura Spartan

The Obtura III MAX heated gutta-percha system from Obtura Spartan incorporates a retooled electronic board to enhance the reliability. Additionally, the heat radiation near patient contact surfaces has been reduced to ensure patient comfort.

It is designed to allow effective backfilling of canal shapes created with newer generation instruments by providing exceptional tactile control to replicate those shapes during obturation. A new, enhanced thermal protector significantly reduces heat around patient contact surfaces with a new, sleek design that drives warm air away from the tip of the unit and brings in cool air making patient safety a top priority.
Advanced connectivity creates worry-free operation with no downtime for charging. A new, user-friendly connection allows for quick and easy replacement of the handpiece.

Aseptico

Launched in 2007, the AEU-7000E-70V from Aseptico has quickly become known for its “high-end features at an affordable price” concept. In response to the demand for a more basic motor, Aseptico is introducing the AEU-6000 series. The AEU-7000E-70V is said to have many superior benefits in terms of advanced handpiece calibration, speed and torque accuracy and programming versatility, but the AEU-6000 series is more economical and yet provides equivalent or greater functionality than many of the pricier motors of the competition.

Features of the AEU-6000 series include a small footprint with an easy-to-read display and intuitive user interface; autoclavable, brushless 40,000-rpm micromotor; and a basic calibration system to compensate for many variables in the implant and endo contra angles at the time of treatment. There are 10 programmable preset buttons (five in implant mode, five in endo mode) for saving preferred ratio, speed, torque, irrigation and motor direction settings.

Kuraray

Kuraray, manufacturer of many innovative products including the world’s first total-etching and self-etching products, Panavia and CLEARFIL SE BOND, is releasing CLEARFIL SA CEMENT. Like most self-adhesive cement, it is fluoride releasing and is easier and faster to use than other types of resin cements. But it goes steps further and solves two very significant problems faced with resin cements: significantly easier removal of excess cement and true bonding to zirconia-based restorations.

CLEARFIL SA CEMENT delivers consistent high and durable bond strengths regardless of whether the bond is moist or dry, with virtually no risk of postoperative sensitivity. Available in shade universal (A2) and white, CLEARFIL SA CEMENT is indicated for cementation of crowns, bridges, inlays and onlays made of conventional porcelain, ceramic, hybrid ceramics, composite resin or metal, and cementation of metal cores, resin cores, metal or glass fiber posts.

PeriOptix

PeriOptix is announcing its latest generation portable headlight, The Solaris LED. The Solaris can be attached to any loupe or worn on a headband. The state-of-the-art LED and lens design produces 80,000 lux in a completely portable light, and its small power pack with rechargeable Li Ion batteries weighs only 6.6 ounces. Portable headlights allow dentists, surgeons, veterinarians and dental hygienists the freedom to move from operatory to operatory without being tethered to older style, fiber optic light sources.
At 80,000 lux, The Solaris LED produces the highest intensity of any portable dental or surgical headlight.

Pentron

The Artiste Nano Composite from Pentron is now available in five-shade syringe or single-dose trial kits, featuring A2 dentin/body, A3 dentin/body, B1 dentin/body, A- Enamel and B-Enamel. The kits also include a comprehensive DVD and a handy quick restorative guide that shows you step-by-step procedures for basic anterior/veneer restorations or a posterior restoration. The Artiste Nano Composite System is a uniquely simple approach to creating beautiful polychromatic restorations with an easy-to-follow technique that requires just minutes of chair time.

While many composite systems seek to introduce complex layering techniques, the Artiste System builds on the concept of effectively replicating the two basic components of natural teeth — dentin and enamel. The intuitive nomenclature implemented for the dentin/body and enamel materials that make up the foundation of this system takes all the guess work out of what material or shade should be used at any point during the restorative procedure to generate beautiful and vital results.

This innovative new system is centered on a full line of dentin/body shades that correspond directly to the Vita shade guide and a limited line of intuitively keyed enamels that facilitate quick and easy selection for accurate shade matching and seamless blending with natural dentition. The combination of the carefully formulated dentin/bodies and the corresponding enamel layer effectively recreate the optics of natural teeth without requiring the general practitioner to take any extra steps than normally required for even monochromatic layering.

Sirona Dental Systems

Sirona Dental Systems calls its CEREC AC the most advanced dental CAD/CAM system available. At the heart of the system is the Bluecam handheld acquisition camera, which uses a highly intense blue LED (light-emitting diode) that is superior to other digital impression technologies, including red laser light.
The optics used in the Bluecam handheld camera have been optimized for a higher depth of field and accuracy, and have been coupled with increased computing power to display the most crisp, detailed digital impressions possible, which in turn yield the most precise 3-D digital models. In addition, the acquisition camera’s built-in shake control eliminates movement artifacts, so images are captured without any blurriness or distortion.

CEREC AC helps dentists harness the full potential of digital impression taking. Thanks to Bluecam, capturing half-arch impressions in 40 seconds and full-arch impressions in two minutes and then creating multi-unit restorations of the highest esthetic quality is now a reality.

CEREC AC is designed to meet the needs of any dental practice. It is the only CAD/CAM system that delivers access to efficient, precise and affordable CAD/CAM solutions, including the newly introduced Pay as You Go option and CEREC Connect. CEREC AC is available exclusively through Patterson Dental.

VOCO

VOCO, Germany’s No. 1 fluoride manufacturer, is announcing Profluorid Varnish, a 5 percent sodium fluoride varnish with xylitol, its first fluoride product for the American market. Taking only seconds, the new, patented, single-dose delivery system, which includes the brush and the material, makes the application very simple. The varnish sets quickly in the presence of saliva, providing immediate and long-lasting results. It is available in dosages for adults (0.4 ml) and children (0.2 ml).

Patients like the natural melon flavor without an aftertaste. The material is free of saccharin, aspartame and gluten. The white transparent color makes the material invisible on the teeth and leads to high patient acceptance. A high immediate fluoride release makes the material perfect for treating sensitivity after scaling and root planning. Profluorid has enhanced flow characteristics, reaching areas traditional varnishes may miss, and adheres well to a moist surface.

Designs for Vision

Using magnification loupes can provide visual enhancement by enlarging or magnifying images. But magnification is only half of the solution. Adding light increases depth of field, contrast and overall visibility. Fiberoptic illumination offers benefits, but with significant operating costs and the lack of portability. LEDs, or light emitting diodes, are more efficient and less costly to operate. Designs for Vision has harnessed LED technology to provide untethered, lightweight and portable illumination.

Designs for Vision offers the LED DayLite and the new LED DayLite Mini. The LED DayLite utilizes Designs for Vision optics to provide bright (adjustable 0–9500 footcandles) white light that is brighter than fiberoptics and 30 percent brighter than what others offer. The new LED DayLite Mini is the smallest, lightest and brightest mini-LED available (adjustable 0–4400 footcandles).

Both the LED DayLite and the LED DayLite Mini are manufactured with the latest technology, emitting bright white light at the perfect daylight color temperature. The blue cable is shielded for your protection and the tellurium copper alloy heat sink provides a cooler, longer lasting LED, which meets all temperature safety standards. Each light comes with two lithium ion battery packs.
