MONTREAL, QUEBEC, CANADA: A number of climatic regions merge in Montreal, giving the city its humid continental climate. This means that although May in Montreal can be rather warm and wet, the mild spring weather is inclined to drastic changes in temperature. One can expect temperatures to range between 45 to 65 degrees Fahrenheit, so pack accordingly.
However, no matter where you hail from, one can surmise that the primary reason you are heading to Montreal in May is most certainly not for the weather.
From May 27 to 31, more than 12,000 dental professionals, students and exhibitors will find a lot to explore at the 40th annual Journées dentaires internationales du Québec (JDIQ). This meeting has seen considerable growth in the past few years. Just a bit more than 7,000 of last year’s total attendees (12,176) were made up of dentists, hygienists, dental assistants and dental technicians, and another 2,261 attendees were students in these areas.
Of course, the most difficult decision of the meeting is going to be deciding how to divvy time between racking up C.E. credits, perusing the 115,000 feet of exhibition space and enjoying the delights of Montreal in May.
Featured speakers and their topics that you might want to look into include:
- Dr Erle D. Schneidman, Pediatric Dentistry — Prevention for the Infant and Young Child
- Dr Kenneth D. Jones, Got Ethics?
- Dr Edward A. McLaren, Ceramic Selection: Which System for Which Case?
- Dr Paul L. Child Jr., Dental Products, Technology, Trends, and Techniques
- Lois Banta, Dealing with Difficult Patients or … How to Turn Lemons into Lemonade
- Dr Lyndon F. Cooper, Simple Rules for Outstanding Implant Esthetics
You also might want to look into the no-holds-barred panel discussion about Implant Dentistry — Myths and Realities, presented by four of the leading implant companies, as well as the workshops on composite resins, the Invisalign system, periodontal and oral surgery, rotary endodontic systems and suturing techniques. All lectures are ADA CERP-approved for C.E. credits.
A great aid in planning your schedule is the fact that the exhibit hall is open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Tuesday. Don’t forget to check out the presentations offered by the Dental Industry Showcase.
If you’d really like to get your blood racing, just around the corner from the Dental Industry Showcase, you’ll find the Grand Prix Formula 1 Simulator at booth No. 2223. Take it for a spin in support of support of the Fondation de l’Ordre des dentistes du Québec. The booth is offered in partnership with the National Bank of Canada and the JDIQ.
