When I launched the Picasso soft-tissue laser, it was like a sonic boom. A small fighter jet is just a dot in the sky, but at supersonic speeds, it produces percussion waves that can be heard and felt miles away. Breaking the price barrier on lasers and making laser technology affordable for all has always been my goal. Picasso was, and still is, the sonic boom heard across the dental industry around the world.
Not too long ago, manufacturers were selling soft-tissue lasers for more than twice the amount that they sell them for today. There has been no change in their technology; it was just inflated pricing. With the introduction of Picasso, we forced the industry to change. The competition dropped their prices, thus making laser dentistry more affordable.
We are the first, and probably only, laser manufacturer who you will hear say: “All lasers are good lasers. Buy any one of them and you will have a technology that can transform your practice.”
AMD LASERS is a company based around this philosophy. Quite simply, we speak well of and compliment all of our competitors. We practice this philosophy every day at AMD LASERS, providing professional advice and educational solutions in laser technology. This simple concept has differentiated our organization and has helped make Picasso the No. 1 selling laser in the world.
Laser technology celebrated its 50th year anniversary last year. It’s used around us every day, and it’s the standard of care. For example, no one would dream of selecting scalpel surgery instead of LASIK™ for corrective eye surgery. Ralph Waldo Emerson said, “Build a better mouse trap, and the world will beat a path to your door.” AMD LASERS has built that “better mousetrap.”
This great advancement is not just our Picasso laser, but it is also our dedication to education. At AMD LASERS, we believe that knowledge is critical in determining which laser is best for you. We want you to be an educated buyer. In our booth, you will find more practicing laser dentists than you will sales people. Learning how to use a laser is just as important as deciding which model best fits your needs.
There are many diode lasers on the market with an assortment of sizes, shapes, price points and bells and whistles. Here are some basic guidelines to help you determine your laser needs:
If you need an entry level laser at a great price, then a Picasso Lite at $2,495 is a good place to start.
If you are looking for an “all-in-one” soft-tissue laser, then check out the Picasso.
If you’re looking for a training module that fits your needs, then there’s DVD, online, hands-on and even the world’s first dental laser iPad app (available through iTunes) training available.
A couple of warnings: all soft-tissue lasers cut thermally, so if you hear a sales rep telling you that one wavelength is better than the other, run. Next, you have two choices in delivery systems: fiber-optic cables (low-cost) or disposable tips (higher cost but more convenient). Calculate this into your cost. Picassos are available with both.
If you do not yet have a laser, don’t worry. You are still on the front of the wave. A laser should be the one purchase you make. Find a solution and a laser that fits your needs, even if it is not one made by AMD LASERS.
