NEW YORK, US: The International College of Dentists (ICD) is excited to be returning to the Greater New York Dental Meeting (GNYDM) this year to celebrate global oral health leadership and service at its 2024 international congress. The congress is on track to be the largest and most diverse gathering of ICD leaders and fellows to date, promising a truly international experience of collegiality, collaboration and pomp. Running from 29 November to 2 December, the congress will feature several key events, including the ICD Global Convocation Ceremony, the ICD International Council meeting and a celebration for the launch of the ICD Global Oral Health Leadership (GOHL) Institute.
The ICD Global Convocation Ceremony will honour over 50 distinguished dentists from various countries, including Afghanistan, Armenia, Bangladesh, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, Indonesia, Jamaica, Nigeria, Pakistan, Panama, the UK and the US. The prestigious ICD fellowship will be bestowed on the inductees in celebration of their achievements as accomplished leaders, educators, practitioners and humanitarians who have often practised in challenging circumstances such as war, natural disasters, pandemics and civil unrest. The global officers of the ICD will also be inducted.
The event offers a unique opportunity for new fellows to engage with colleagues in the ICD and with key industry figures, to receive the official ICD key and materials, and to attend an international reception, fostering a spirit of global camaraderie. Furthermore, inductees will gain insight into involvement in the ICD’s humanitarian, educational and leadership activities.
The ICD will launch the GOHL Institute in conjunction with programme partner Henry Schein. The college acquired the GOHL Institute (formerly known as the Senior Dental Leaders programme and operated by the Global Child Dental Fund) earlier this year. The launch will be attended by the ICD and Henry Schein global leaders, academic supporters from Harvard University and King’s College London, programme alumni and prospective participants in the programme, representatives from industry and other key opinion leaders.
The GOHL Institute retains the one-year development programme format, which includes strategic leadership skills for the implementation of solutions to improve oral health and systemic wellness worldwide. Through fostering dialogue, debate and shared learning, the GOHL Institute will further advance its aim to empower next-generation leaders to achieve impactful and sustainable improvements to oral health, strengthening prevention and wellness models of care and ultimately enhancing populations’ overall health.
Complementing the ICD Global Convocation Ceremony and the GOHL Institute launch, the ICD will offer continuing education sessions for fellows and GNYDM attendees. These will provide educational opportunities for participants to delve into topics such as insights from the African Craniofacial Anomalies Network and advancements in treating severe mandibular conditions, reflecting the ICD’s commitment to continuous learning and global dental health.
Finally, while in New York, the ICD International Council will convene for its annual business meeting. The council is the ICD’s global governing body, made up of elected representatives from all 16 ICD sections. The council will discuss adoption of the annual budget, setting of the direction and vision for the coming year, analysis and adjustment of membership and development strategies, and evaluation of all programming for financial and value impact.
Join us as we celebrate dental excellence on a global stage and foster the spirit of service that lies at the heart of our profession. Mark your calendars for 29 November to 2 December at the Javits Center in New York. To take part in the 2024 ICD International Congress, register here.
