SAN FRANCISCO, US: The migration of myriad dental services on to the cloud is one of the major dimensions of transformation occurring in dentistry. A key part of this move online has been, and will continue to be, the rise of platforms powered by artificial intelligence (AI), capable of instantaneously and accurately analysing visual data for a range of common dental problems. These emergent technologies are not the sole province of dental clinics either; many mobile apps are now leveraging AI to grant individuals the ability to assess their own oral health wherever and whenever they choose. One such mobile app, Trust AI, which calls itself the ChatGPT for dentists, has recently marked a milestone in raising US$6 million (€5 million*) in seed capital funding, a cash infusion which positions it strongly for continued market expansion.
According to a company press release, the funding represents the largest early-stage investment in a dental technology startup to date, underscoring the confidence of investors in the potential of AI to reshape the practice of dentistry. The round was supported by a consortium that included established industry players such as Wehrle Implant Immersion Center, Goetze Dental and Rockwood Programs and a network of practising dentists with a combined business footprint worth more than US$100 million annually. Their backing provides Trust AI not only with capital but also with access to deep industry knowledge and immediate integration into the workflows of established practices.
Trust AI’s platform is designed to address several persistent pain points that slow down clinical work. By combining diagnostic support, radiographic image analysis, insurance verification, patient communications and practice management into a single portal that adheres to healthcare privacy laws, the system positions itself as a one-stop hub for dentists. At its core lies Isaac, a bespoke large language model engineered exclusively for dentistry. Isaac can be accessed at any time through a web browser, a voice call or even a WhatsApp message, giving dentists immediate access to second opinions, treatment planning assistance and administrative support without the delays typically associated with specialist referrals or manual office processes.
The company has reported that more than 3,000 dentists have already registered with the platform in just a few weeks since its launch, and uptake is progressing at a rate of approximately 500 new users each week. Crucially, this growth has been achieved without paid advertising, suggesting strong word-of-mouth momentum. Each new participant contributes to the refinement of the system because anonymised clinical data helps Isaac to improve its accuracy and relevance in real-world scenarios.
Trust AI’s co-founders say their vision is to develop dentistry’s first fully AI-native practice management platform by 2026. This would involve automating workflows that currently demand significant time and administrative labour, such as note-taking, claims processing and treatment plan generation. The aspiration is to free practitioners from the inefficiencies of fragmented software ecosystems and allow them to focus on patient care. Industry observers have framed this moment as dentistry’s equivalent of the smartphone revolution, the AI having the potential to reconfigure not only how practices operate but also how patients experience care.
