OrthoFX announced the launch of its FXIntegrated Buttons — the industry’s first fully integrated buttons, completely and seamlessly manufactured as an integral part of the aligner.

Debuting at the 2026 American Association of Orthodontists Annual Session, this innovation represents a major advancement in clear aligner treatment efficiency by reducing chair time, enhancing durability and improving patient comfort and satisfaction.

Unlike traditional bonded buttons or existing “integrated” alternatives, FXIntegrated Buttons are formed as one continuous piece from the same proprietary polymers used in OrthoFX aligners (AirFlex, FXClear and FXBright). This eliminates adhesives, ultrasonic welding, precision cuts and slits that are commonly used for elastic engagement.

Conventional solutions require bonding composite or metal buttons to tooth surfaces and often necessitate cutouts in aligners, which can compromise aligner integrity. Slits and welded or adhesive hooks may also deform or separate under elastic force. FXIntegrated Buttons solve these challenges with a true one-piece design, virtually eliminating button failure.

“At OrthoFX, we are driven by innovation to eliminate the everyday frustrations clinicians encounter with aligner therapy,” said Rick Matty, COO and president of OrthoFX. “Our FXIntegrated Buttons are formed directly from the aligner material as one continuous piece — no bonding, no weak points. This delivers enhanced durability, removes bonding steps, reduces unplanned visits and gives patients a more comfortable experience.”

Key advantages include:

  • Reduced chair time — eliminates bonding/debonding steps and reduces emergency visits from button failures or deformation.
  • Unrestricted placement and elastic versatility — enables multidirectional elastic use without interfering with optimal attachment placement.
  • Exceptional strength and durability — withstands up to 10 lbs of force (~20x extra-heavy elastics), resisting breakage and deformation.
  • Enhanced patient experience — smooth, seamless design improves comfort and ease of elastic application, increasing patient satisfaction.*

“My patients love the switch,” said Dr. Neil Warshawsky, orthodontist and director of orthodontics, UIC Craniofacial Center. “They are more comfortable, eliminate emergency repairs and allow greater placement flexibility while maintaining optimal attachment positioning.”

FXIntegrated Buttons recently showcased at the AAO and will be available for all OrthoFX aligner systems early summer 2026. For more information, visit orthofx.com.
